Green Unions

Looking back at some of our most interesting weddings .

If you’re not sure how a handfasting wedding ceremony works then I’ve got a perfect example for you this week.  Annette and Ravi chose to pledge their vows within a log circle in the Forest of Dean and invited 180 guests from round the world to share their special day in July 2015 embraced by the natural world. With flowers from Organic Blooms and photos by Esther, Annette and Ravi’s wedding is full of natural magic.  Annette tells us more …

Now here's a lovely little gem of a winter wedding.  Even though it looks like summer's only just on it's way, I know some of you will be in the midst of planning a winter wedding for the end of 2017 or 2018 ...

Cheryl and Oliver tied the knot on the Fens in the depth of winter 2016, on 29th December, and when she contacted me listing her bullet points I knew this little gem of a wedding was one you would love to hear about:

  • Ceremony in a small church in Coveney - Cambridgeshire.
  • Reception on a farm with converted barn called Bedingham’s Farm Sutton Gault, Cambridgeshire. The farm serves it’s own hog roast and is also a small holding.
  • Dress was a vintage inspired tea length gown.
  • Bought our rings from Glasswing Jewellery - found in Green Union’s wedding directory.
  • We offered home made sloe gin and blackberry brandy as favours.
  • We hired a local amateur photographer, Darren John, who captured our love and appreciation of the outdoors.
  • The feel/vibe of the day was vintage, coupled with our love of nature (even in winter), ale and rock and roll music. We hired 2 gramophones and played pre. 1950’s music as our guests arrived.
  • Our centrepieces alluded to our love of those pubs recognised by CAMRA and were decorated with a winter theme of pine cones and natural logs.

So I'm handing over the Cheryl to tell you all about the details in her own words ...

Emma and Matt were married at Beaconside House near Bideford in North Devon over a glorious early Autumn weekend.  This laid back DIY wedding, which was oviously packed full of fun and laughter, was beautifully captured by Emma at Freckle Photography.

Today the lovely Emma (who is a wedding celebrant and coordinator by trade) and Matt are generously sharing their quirky and unique wedding, held deep in the North Devon woods, with us.  Over to you Emma ...

Today I’ve got a really great treat for you.  Remember our GU Soulmates, Tamsin and Jim?  Well they went and got married near Glastonbury last September and theirs was a very relaxed festival style DIY wedding in a field.  According to Tamsin, it was the best day of her life!

The thing that amazes me is that Tamsin and Jim managed to throw an incredibly all inclusive festival style wedding with 11 bridesmaids, 5 flower girls, 9 groomsmen and 173 guests on a very lean budget of only £3,000 … could you do that?

No!  I still can’t quite get my head around it either, but they did. We've already given you a taste of how they managed such a budget concious wedding that looks so amazing.  But today we wanted to tell you all about the actual wedding day and the best person to tell you more about it, is Tamsin herself.  Over to you Tamsin …

When the lovely Emma Stoner sent me photos of Annie and Phil’s very personal wedding at The Longhouse near Bruton in Somerset in June 2016, I knew you’d like to read all about it.  This down to earth couple wanted a wedding venue that celebrates all things local where they could entertain their family and friends, plus a broad of children, in the great outdoors in a relaxed and informal way.  Emma’s photos really capture the relaxed and friendly vibe that the couple created and will give them very special personal memories of their wedding day for years to come.

Bride Annie told me all about their search for the perfect wedding venue and how the day unfolded - over to you Annie …

Time for another amazingly creative and inspirational eco friendly wedding!

This week I’m handing you over to lovely couple Anne and Steve who will tell you all about their amazing natural wedding which took place earlier in the year right in the heart of Bristol City.  Their wedding was first brought to my attention by a very talented dress designer, Linda Thomas, who makes it her business to create one off works of art using recycled silk fabrics with felted highlights.

This really is a one off and best told by Viktoria Kuti's beautiful photos and Anne, the lovely bride herself ...

Here's a lovely story for Saturday morning ...

It seems such a short time since I started talking to Tamsin about her September wedding plans and met her for a coffee and large slice of cake in South Molton just before her hen do on Exmoor.   Now, with just three weeks to go, Tamsin share's how she's feeling and gives us a roundup of her wedding plans…
