Cut stress get married

It seems wedded bliss is the best way for women to relieve stress, as a new survey reveals a happy marriage cuts stress in females - but has no psychological effect on their husbands.

A survey quizzing 60 married parents on how satisfied they were with their marriage revealed that women enjoying wedded bliss have lower levels of a stress hormone than those in unhappy relationships.

Psychologists discovered however that home life does not effect men in the same way - their stress levels are determined by their jobs.

The researchers believe the results are because content couples divide their household chores and share of childcare, meaning busy wives can relax and unwind more easily.

Darby Saxbe, the psychologist who led the study at the University of California, Los Angeles, said: 'As far as women are concerned, being happily married appears to bolster physiological recovery from work.'
