Are you ready to change up your look? I don't know about you, but lockdown has left me itching to switch some things up, and there are lots of new trends that can be achieved both easily and sustainably. Whether you simply use existing pieces differently (check out trend number 1); dig out some neglected 'vintage' pieces of your own (see trend number 3 and what I will be doing for my genuine 90s grunge gear!); check out eBay listings or charity shops for pre-loved items; or choose to invest in pieces by sustainable designers, or a womens personal styling box, there's something for everyone!
Established fashion stylist, Janette Eakins, shares the following advice...
Whether you are walking to work or having lunch with your friends, a new style is to wrap a pair of heels around the ankle of your jeans or trousers. You can finish this cool look with a jacket, coat or off the shoulder blouse that matches. This is a new take on a classic style that will grab attention and make people take note of you.
This look is harkening back to the 19th century. Victorian-inspired sleeves have an oversized shape that makes the waist look slimmer and adds a feminine touch to the outfit. We recommend soft colours during spring or consider black or grey if you want a more sombre look. It also is a good time to pull out your 1980s puff sleeve blouses - this is a look that continues to come back!
Grunge is coming back this year with chunky boots and feminine dresses. Whether you like bold patterns or block colours, a cinched waist dress is a good way to bring out the inner girl in you. Pair it with some black combat boots, and you are ready for just about anything!
When it gets colder this fall, keep yourself warm with a full-length faux leather coat. If you want to look high fashion and sleek, these pieces with long lines are a perfect fit. You can switch things up by wearing a bold red or emerald colour, or go all black if you really want to get attention.
You can block out the sun’s harmful rays and do it in a stylish manner with a pastel bucket hat. This is a trendy and cute accessory that looks great during any season. It is so versatile that you can wear the hat with almost anything. Many people like a zesty lemon or light beige colour because they are soft shades that are timeless classics.
Now you know some of the hot styles for 2020, so you can go out there and wow any crowd that you encounter!
