INSPIRATION - Eco-Friendly Bohemian Wedding Ideas at The White Horse Inn, Derbyshire, Captured by Tess Viera PhotographyBohemian weddings normally make one think of festival-style outdoor weddings, but as this styled shoot proves, this doesn’t have to be the case! Tess describes the concept behind the shoot:

“This shoot was important to create as I wanted to show that the even on your big day you can work towards being eco-friendly without compromising the beauty of the wedding you’ve imagined. It was a lovely opportunity to work with these local eco-conscious suppliers, all bringing something incredible to the shoot to create a bit of eco-magic.”

INSPIRATION - Eco-Friendly Bohemian Wedding Ideas at The White Horse Inn, Derbyshire, Captured by Tess Viera Photography - hair and makeupLauren is a makeup artist who believes that makeup should enhance a bride’s natural beauty not mask their face, boosting both confidence and radiance. She holds her kit to rigorous eco-friendly standards:

“As a mum of two, I always have an eye on the future. The need for sustainable products is undeniable and so I ensure that my kit is full of products which are ethically produced and ‘clean’. I rely heavily on products by Arbonne as their makeup products are not only ‘clean’ but are certified vegan and so are as ethical as I believe you can get on the market. It also happens to be true that the quality of these products is second to none and allows me to create perfect, natural looks for my clients every time. As I have a full kit which is ethical, clean and vegan I can ensure that I can work with all bridal parties, whatever their needs.

The more we can do to make weddings eco friendly and sustainable the better. Couples planning their weddings need to know that it is possible to have a beautiful wedding whilst still being friendly to the environment, so if there is ever a chance for me to work with other suppliers who have sustainability at the forefront of their minds I jump at the chance. I also got to work alongside Jen at Wildflower Hair who I am thrilled to say I am in the process of setting up a business with ... The Wildflower Hair and Makeup Tribe (for all bridal hair and makeup needs).”

Jen agrees that sustainability and ethical eco-friendly practices are important in an industry that is renowned for creating so much waste. She provides hairstyling for bohemian souls who want a more laidback natural feel to their wedding hair, be that in the form of plaits and braids, loose unstructured up-dos or cascading half up half down waves.

“As a business, we are constantly making changes to be more sustainable. At the salon we recycle as much as possible, have introduced refill stations, are constantly changing to more sustainable tools and products, looking into ranges that are made in the UK and have changed colour brand based on their policies and actions to become more eco-conscious, vegan and sustainable. For the bridal side of the business, we are switching to pump sprays instead of aerosols, Fudge styling products that are manufactured in Manchester and we have taken on the Amika styling range which is eco friendly, supports ethical practices, are cruelty-free and the majority of the range is certified vegan, with all products being free of sulphates, parabens and phthalates.”

INSPIRATION - Eco-Friendly Bohemian Wedding Ideas at The White Horse Inn, Derbyshire, Captured by Tess Viera Photography - veil and dressPeacock & Pearl specialise in luxe alternative bridal accessories; they don’t use any real leather, only use ethically-sourced feathers, strongly dislike single-use plastic and ensure that all packaging is recyclable. They provided a long veil for the shoot:

“We know so many brides who don’t know what to do with their accessories after the big day – when we first started making veils, we thought that we could try to make use of those pre-loved pieces in making new heirlooms. This means we use recycled fabrics and combs in most of our veils. More and more couples are starting to think about the impact of their nuptials on the environment, and we really think it’s time we all started promoting more eco-friendly options. Weddings can be such a large use of resources and it’s really nice to feel like we’re offering something that impacts less on our world, while still offering the highest quality.”

It paired beautifully with a gown from Nora Eve Bridal.

"All of my fibre art pieces are handmade by myself not mass-produced, so any production costs or environmental impacts associated with mass production have been avoided completely. The materials I use has only been purchased from sustainable suppliers who are also small businesses. The cotton I use is all-natural, undyed and unbleached fibres.

The bohemian décor I hire out has all been personally curated from secondhand sources as I am a huge advocate for up-cycling and re-cycling older items. Many of my products I have repaired or customised myself, giving them a new lease of life which they may otherwise not have had. The ethics of the business mean that I aim to avoid purchasing anything new, helping to reinforce the vintage, bohemian organic ideals that it upholds.”

Stories of Style also collaborated as stylists, as well as providing dried florals:

"I source most of my props and material from charity shops and car boots, any scrap pieces of fabric I then turn into fabric garlands, wreaths or patchwork cushions. Any florals from shoots, events or fairs l save, dry and reuse in dried floral arrangements or confetti. I have been wanting to be involved in an eco/sustainable shoot for a while as I wanted to help ‘showcase’ a way that each and every event can be done with sustainability in mind.”

Christina’s signature style is wholeheartedly rustic, naturally beautiful and expressively romantic. Expect loose, natural and wild floral styling!

“I strive to be eco-friendly wherever possible. All my floral materials are natural; fresh or dried flowers, no silk in sight! I love reusing or upcycling vintage or antique pieces, fabrics, lace and glasses where I can – both in work and at home. I adore the charm of something having a story before it may be used by you. I put my heart into my work. I am led by the seasons when it comes to my blooms and I strive to source flowers, foliage and other items from local vendors wherever possible. None of my designs and work in the shoot used any floral foam and there was no plastic in sight!”

“I am conscious of both ingredients and the way package my products. With regards to ingredients, I offer both vegan and non-vegan options. Where my cakes do contain eggs, I do use vegan margarine to reduce the dairy consumption, and therefore the carbon footprint of my business. I feel that in order to encourage change, offering a non-dairy option acts as an effective gateway for customers to try vegan/environmentally-conscious cakes and to show them that things can be tasty without dairy in them! For packaging, the cookie bags I use are compostable and I use paper-only packaging, only using plastics where it is unavoidable usually for hygiene purposes.”
