Today I’m delighted to introduce you to Vaughan & Unwin, a new London-born brand. Founders Sarah and Steph met whilst working in the film industry, where they travelled extensively; their launch collection of sustainable and eco-friendly 100% Turkish organic cotton travel bags and totes stems from this background, as well as merging with Sarah’s childhood on an organic farm, and Steph’s personal connection to Turkey.
I was delighted to be gifted a set of their travel bags - I don’t know about you, but I always go away with the best of intentions of being organised but never quite manage it…now I have no excuse!
Infinitely better than any plastic bag, these drawstring bags arrive in fully-recyclable packaging. I love the simple designs on them (leaves for me, naturally!), and they are generously-sized at 33x30cm - ideal for underwear (one for clean, one for dirty), or shoes, cables etc, etc.
Being cotton, they will be easy to wash (I’m not a born ironer, but it that’s your thing, go for it!), and are well-made so will last for years, before one day biodegrading without a trace. It’s not just any cotton, however; their fabric is GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified, which protects the environment as well as the welfare of the workers and their communities throughout every stage of production.
So why should you invest in a set of Vaughan & Unwin’s travel bags? Aside from the obvious eco and ethical credentials of the bags themselves, of course, who doesn’t feel good about supporting a small business? It doesn’t stop there, though; Vaughan & Unwin give back to nature with a 'Buy One - Plant One' promise. For each set purchased, they donate a sapling via the TEMA Foundation (The Turkish Foundation for Combating Soil Erosion for Reforestation and the Protection of Natural Habitats); they’ve already created a Hope Forest of 3000 saplings in Edirne, Turkey.
Look out on our Instagram stories for our travels to Green Union partner venue, Finca Al Limon Ecolodge, later this month, complete with my Vaughan & Unwin travel bags!
