REVIEW - Plastic-Free Eco-Friendly Reusable Make Up Removal Set by New Sustainable Brand, ADBRA

23rd February 2020

Makeup is definitely a guilty pleasure of mine (vegan and as clean as possible, of course!), but removing it can be a wasteful process. Which is why I was excited to try these reusable makeup remover cotton pads from ADBRA.

Plastic-Free Eco-Friendly Reusable Make Up Removal Set by New Sustainable Brand, ADBRAThis new eco-ethical start-up company is based in London and their core value is about putting people and planet first; what this means is that their products focus on sustainability and well-being. Adel Djebbar, Design Director and founder of the company, says:

We try to reduce our carbon footprint as much as we can and offset the rest. All our products are plastic-free. The aim of the business is to provide products that will not only have a positive impact on people’s mental health but also be as neutral for the planet as possible. We are committed to being a fair business, and whenever hiring contractors, we pay at or above the London living wage.

Plastic-Free Eco-Friendly Reusable Make Up Removal Set by New Sustainable Brand, ADBRAThis beauty set is one of their first product launches, and it includes 16 washable pads, a washing machine bag for easy washing, a beautiful bamboo storage holder to keep all your pads neatly arranged, 2 washable silicone 'cotton' buds for makeup application, and a natural face sponge for face cleansing.

  • The large and extra soft white pads made from biodegradable 100% cotton – making makeup removal easy and more environmentally friendly.
  • The reusable washing machine makes washing the pads effortless. Simply put the used pads in the mesh bag and drop it into the wash with the rest of your clothes.
  • The bamboo container – keeping all your makeup removal pads in one place. The container has a slot on the side to make access easier.
  • The washable silicone ‘cotton’ buds are ideal for makeup application (and they have included tips and tricks on how to use these).
  • The natural konjac face sponge is a sustainable replacement for plastic-based sponges; simply put it in water to soften and use directly on your skin with your favourite face wash.

And what's more:

  • All packaging is made from recyclable materials.
  • All labels are sustainable and biodegradable.
  • ADBRA have worked closely with their sustainability partners to offset the carbon footprint of this product through planting trees in the UK and overseas to not only have a positive impact on the environment, but also the local communities involved, including all the raw materials, packaging and shipping - all the way down to the delivery to your doorstep.

The Verdict

Plastic-Free Eco-Friendly Reusable Make Up Removal Set by New Sustainable Brand, ADBRAI was pleasantly surprised at the softness of these pads - they removed face makeup well with just warm water, but the stubborn mascara needed a little micellar water assistance, but ultimately resulting in less than I would normally need to use! They washed really well with my regular 30wash, and it's a nice touch to have something perfectly designed to store them in.

I hadn't used a silicone applicator for makeup before, but it resulted in much less powder loss and a more regular line than a brush does, so I'm really pleased to have found it for applying eyeliner.

The konjac sponge is something I've also seen before but never tried - it did a lovely job of building the foam of my usual cleanser, so once again, I didn't need to use as much product - result!

Ultimately, this set would make a great gift, or the perfect sustainable treat for yourself. So if you haven't already made to swap to reusable makeup remover pads, check them out here!
