Many of the most popular cleaning products out there on the market are non-biodegradable, which means that they will not be able to be naturally broken down by bacteria or other living organisms. This is where the problem lies if our environment is not able to break down these chemicals they will cause will just build up and pollute our homes. When researching the effects of these chemicals I noticed that there is a worrying lack of studies completed on the damage that the cleaning products we are using to our environment. If we don’t fully understand how chemicals are damaging our environment how are we able to find a sustainable solution. How Harmful Our Cleaning Chemicals To Our Health? 

Cleaning chemicals are not only bad for the environment but the effects of using them can be detrimental to our health. A study completed by Harvard University and the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research has discovered that traditional cleaning chemical used within our homes and workplaces can cause increase our chances of developing the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease by one third. A very worrying fact, I know, but this is one of the many reasons why we need to make sure that cleaning is being improved for the better. 

Are Biodegradable Chemicals Environmentally-Friendly? 

One of the biggest advancements in the cleaning product industry is the improvements made to the chemicals being used. Lately, many large companies have started switching over to using biodegradable chemicals, this is great news as it means that we are one step closer to making cleaning 100% environmentally friendly. Employing bio-degradable chemicals in your home will help to reduce the negative effects that we are causing on our environment which will lead to a more sustainable future for the cleaning industry. Biodegradable cleaning products can also be found at a domestic level as well, you don’t just have to be a large company to invest in the future of cleaning products. 

Can Cleaning Product Packaging Ever Become Environmentally Friendly?   

Although we are making improvements with the chemicals we are using in our homes one thing that needs to be improved is the packing we are using. Traditionally we use plastic to package our cleaning products which are notoriously bad for our environment but can we ever feasible change the packing materials we use? Well, the simple answer is yes, all we need to do is start to use recycled materials and make sure that all waste generated can be reused for other sections of the cleaning product life cycle. 

What Does The Future of Cleaning Products Look Like?

The truth is that cleaning products are not going to go anywhere quickly. We depend on them so great to help provide us with clean homes but this doesn’t mean that nothing can be done to help improve the overall environmental friendliness of the products we are using. Going forward we need to ensure that all the chemicals we are using are tested to ensure that they have no lasting effects on our environment, furthermore, all packing must be fully recycled. Only then we can achieve 100% environmentally-friendly cleaning on a commercial and domestic level.
