INSPIRATIONAL EDITORIAL - A Winter's End Romance With A Bespoke Wedding Dress By Jessica Turner Designs, Captured At Casterley Barn By Rachel Jane Photography

14th February 2020

Happy Valentine's Day! If this beautiful styled shoot doesn't bring out the romantic in you today, I don't know what will. This magical team created sustainable wedding inspiration for the eco bride and groom.

INSPIRATION - A Winter's End Romance with a Bespoke Wedding Dress by Jessica Turner Designs, Captured at Casterley Barn by Rachel Jane PhotographyJessica Turner Designs, the eco bridal designer and coordinator of the shoot, wanted to share her shoot with local suppliers and independent British makers with an eco-design approach. Jessica believes everyone should shop local when they can to support the community and to reduce their carbon footprint. Jessica grew up in Wiltshire and her dresses are stocked in a bridal boutique in Marlborough, Willoughby and Wolf. Therefore, Jessica wanted to find a local venue, one that appreciates and follows organic and sustainable arts, and she found that in Casterley Barn.

The barn itself is a modern building that is nestled in the middle of an organic farm and is surrounded by far-reaching views. The shoot was in keeping with the style of the venue's sleek wooden features, both minimal and modern. Interior designer Holly Freeland worked with a combination of natural elements and stylish resources to create this stunning concept. The team put their own stamp on the interior space with colours of soft peach, greens and darker blue undertones, mimicking the outside views of the grass, the fields and the open air.

The Dress

A bespoke bridal designer supports a sustainable path to production. Jessica has a small yet perfectly formed collection and the ‘Royal’ dress she used for this shoot has a modern slit up the front, boho sleeves with a statement lower back, it has a contemporary style that is perfectly suited to the wedding venue of Casterley Barn. All Jessica’s dresses are lined with a bamboo fabric, which feels similar to silk and cashmere combined; it has amazing properties, including being biodegradable, antibacterial and eco-friendly.

When in season, British flowers are predominantly used to keep her carbon footprint low; the flowers for this shoot were out of season so had to be sourced from wholesalers, but the foliage was sourced from a local grower:

“I’m really passionate about supporting other small businesses by sourcing flowers from local growers. They cultivate part of our landscape which in turn provides lots of lovely flowers for bees and other pollinators to thrive in.”

The bouquet was dressed with lovely long ribbons from Botanical Being, an artist and designer who works with botanicals and focuses on natural dyes and botanical printing.

“I use many of the plants and trees that grow in and around my home in Suffolk for my dying process.  Using natural resources, I connect with nature, scouring the fields and woodlands thus building a better practice for the environment."
