INSPIRATION - Bohemian Neutrals: An Eco Concept by Wonderland Invites, Captured by Kelsie Low Photography at Browning Bros, Essex

24th January 2020

Anyone who knows me knows that the bohemian genre is the one that speaks to my soul more than any other - and in my own creative work, and a neutral colour palette is where I am naturally comfortable. So when the lovely Jenna of Wonderland Invites (a talented stationer and coordinator of this shoot) sent over these images, I was so excited to share them! I'll leave you in Jenna's capable hands to talk us through all the wonderful inspiration presented here...

Bohemian Neutrals: An Eco Concept by Wonderland Invites, Captured by Kelsie Low PhotographyAs the world around us changes, it is all of our responsibilities to take care into what we create...if we can all strive to be eco-friendly in our output, then little by little, we can make important and tangible changes for our planet. This, combined with my love for all things bohemian, outdoorsy and whimsical, was the backbone of this shoot. When sourcing all of the suppliers, the focus was on eco/small and local.

to sourcing of all the amazing furniture from Amy at Anthology Vintage Hire, whose main focus is utilising vintage pieces and creating new items from reclaimed material. Rock The Day Styling and Anthology both create all their own props from reusable/reclaimed materials or scour vintage shops, charity shops or boot sales for their styling items.

I love the style of wedding photography in the US combined with their approach to boho wedding styling. As such, I wanted to combine that unique American flavour with a British take on a bohemian wedding. Typically, boho weddings are synonymous with either darker shades or really vibrant, festival colours. However, I wanted to explore a more nude version of boho, utilising lots of creams, whites, browns, greens and neutral tones. I had worked with Kelsie Low previously and knew her style of photography would perfectly capture the vision I had in mind.

The Venue

Bohemian Neutrals: An Eco Concept by Wonderland Invites, Captured by Kelsie Low Photography at Browning Bros, EssexWhat’s better than eating al fresco and dancing under the stars? Not much to be honest, which is why the amazing Browning Bros outdoor venue at Chalkney Water Meadows in Essex provided the perfect backdrop to this shoot. Their site is brimming with beautiful little pockets of nature; including a beautiful lake and an open field where we shot the models running through the grasses. And luckily, their bell tents were available for the models to get ready.

The Hair and Make-Up

Bohemian Neutrals: An Eco Concept by Wonderland Invites, Captured by Kelsie Low Photography with Lisa AlgerWe chose two models for the shoot; Louise and Rachel, who both have completely different looks and personalities. Lisa Alger provided hair and makeup services; I have worked with Lisa on many occasion and her skills are unparalleled. She is also super quick which helps immensely on a rigorous shoot day.

The Dresses

Bohemian Neutrals: An Eco Concept by Wonderland Invites, Captured by Kelsie Low Photography with Rock The Frock EssexBohemian Neutrals: An Eco Concept by Wonderland Invites, Captured by Kelsie Low Photography with Rock The Frock EssexWe borrowed gowns from Rock The Frock, who place emphasis on supporting small designers by providing them with a platform to grow their businesses. For Louise, we selected gorgeous Chantal Lauren and Otuduy dresses, which worked perfectly with her Texas-native cowboy boots and relaxed hair and makeup. Rachel rocked Rembo Styling and Francis Bridal gowns, which provided a beautiful contrast to her more structured, plaited hair. All dresses were supplied by Rock The Frock Bridal who were extremely accommodating and fabulous at recommending dresses to pair with the mood board.

The Wooden Backdrop and Reception Table Set Up

Bohemian Neutrals: An Eco Concept by Wonderland Invites, Captured by Kelsie Low Photography with Anthology HireWe focused on three main installations with a number of smaller setups. We wanted a wow factor, and we wanted drama and impact. Anthology Vintage Hire had just finished their huge wooden backdrop made from reclaimed wood; perfect for an outdoor or indoor wedding.

Bohemian Neutrals: An Eco Concept by Wonderland Invites, Captured by Kelsie Low Photography with Mia SylviaMia Sylvia provided linens, napkins and a shawl for the models...all using plant dyes and dyes made from reclaimed material. As a framing backdrop to our tablescape, Mia Sylvia swathed one end in her beautiful, creamy natural dyed fabrics, whilst Emma Spowage created a massive, pampas and hop-filled installation in the opposing corner.

The table looked abundant and best of all, bohemian and natural.

The Bedouin Tipi Set Up

Bohemian Neutrals: An Eco Concept by Wonderland Invites, Captured by Kelsie Low Photography with Rock The Day StylingRock The Day continued their speciality of bohemian styling by creating the bedouin style low table at the tipi entrance.

Bohemian Neutrals: An Eco Concept by Wonderland Invites, Captured by Kelsie Low Photography with She's Lost ControlI had approached She’s Lost Control who sent us a gorgeous box of goodies to utilise as part of a number of styling setups, including crystals, candles and love sprays from their online collections. We were also lent a couple of dried sage bundles which we ended burning to ward off the wasps on the day; however, the burning sage fit so well that we decided to include it in the images!

The Flowers

Rock The Day injected their macrame into various setups, including the ceremony backdrop. The natural features of the venue, the styling backdrops, and the fabrics all provided perfect areas for capturing the couple and individual portraits.

The Drinks

The Alternative Cake

Bohemian Neutrals: An Eco Concept by Wonderland Invites, Captured by Kelsie Low Photography with Maid of GingerbreadWhen I approached Emily from Maid of Gingerbread, I was so excited by her enthusiasm in creating a tipi out of gingerbread. I had admired her work for aeons and I knew her unique creativity would provide an amazing statement creation which would be worlds apart from the naked cakes we see so often. The detailed macrame piping and the gorgeous matcha green tea infused piped grasses and flowers were mind-blowingly pretty, and the whole confection just worked so well with the larger setup and styling. It was also yummy!

The Stationery
