INSPIRATION - An Eco Friendly Spring Wedding with Luxury Touches at River Cottage

25th September 2019

The concept of this collaborative shoot was to recreate an eco-luxe Spring wedding, in complete harmony with its surroundings at River Cottage on the Dorset/Devon border. It was beautifully captured by Freeformimages Photography, and perfectly styled by Do Me A Favour, and I'm delighted to say that it features not one, but two GREEN UNION partners, Eco Wood Rings and The Conscious Bride!

The Bride

The team showcased 3 eco-friendly and ethical wedding dresses; the ‘Beach' dress made by Luna Bride, the ’Meraki’ two piece made by The Conscious Bride, and a bespoke heirloom silk gown also made by The Conscious Bride. All are made in the UK from ethically-sourced materials, many organic or repurposed.

The Groom

His sustainable outfit comprised of a long sleeve hemp shirt and organic chino trousers from Thought Clothing, and a tweed waistcoat and cap from Cock and Bull Tweed. The bow tie by Patore' was made from solid wood, and the shoes from Bourgeois Boheme were also vegan.

The Ceremony

With the River Cottage HQ farmhouse as its backdrop, the handmade hexagonal arch was decorated lightly with hanging flowers and a little fabric. The handfasting cord and the besom broom were both handmade by Nixie, the celebrant of Unique Ceremonies, from natural materials.

The confetti was hand-picked by Keslowena Confetti for this shoot, and included Hops, Delphinium Lady’s Mantle - just perfect for a garden ceremony.

The Flowers

The gorgeous seasonal flora included Tulips, Narcissi, Hellebores and lots of foraged foliage for a lush, green 'just gathered' Spring look. Even the succulents used were home-propagated by the florists, Petal and Posie! For both the ceremony and the reception décor, flowers were hung in macrame holders from Hooky Madness.

The Reception Décor

Hand-died natural fabrics were used for the napkins, which added a lovely glow of coral to the tablescape. Slate chargers gave depth and contrast to the wooden tables and gold cutlery and tea light holders were used to luxurious effect.

The Venue

River Cottage was made famous by celebrity chef and environmental campaigner, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. It is no wonder that its reputation for local, seasonal, and ethically-sourced food continues to delight its diners.

The Bridal Bell Tent

The bell tents by Native are made from sustainably-sourced cotton and their furnishings are largely bought from a fantastic North Devon based business who sell up-cycled, recycled and second hand goods, or are lovingly restored in-house. What fantastic eco-friendly wedding accommodation for you and your guests!
