ADVICE - GREEN UNION Partner, Bambi, Shares a More Natural Way to Enhance Your Lashes for Your Wedding Day
30th August 2019
Many of us associate bigger, better lashes with eyelash extensions. You know, the false lashes that get applied one by one, or even in little clusters called Russian volume?
But what if I told you that extensions are not your only option? Although the extensions can create a fabulous look and are a fantastic option for many people, they are not for everyone. There is a lesser known treatment which is longer lasting, and lower maintenance and uses only your natural lashes! It's called a lash lift and it looks so beautifully natural in all of your wedding photos.
So what is a lash lift?
A lash lift is a treatment that uses your own, natural lashes, rather than using an adhesive to attach false lashes to your own. It changes the structural bonds in each hair, to create a new shape in every, single, lash; making them all curve upwards.
The curve is right at the root of your lashes, meaning you when looking straight on the full length of your natural lashes will be seen. This way, your lashes appear much longer and fuller, without actually adding anything to them. It simply optimises what mother nature gave you.
It it different to LVL?
In short, not really! A lot of people think of LVL when they think of a lash lift but it is just a brand name. There are many different brands out there, LVL is just a more well known one and unfortunately is not vegan. We use a brand called LashBase which we actually prefer. Not only is it vegan, the brand as a whole are cutting right down on their plastic usage and are much more environmentally conscious. Plus, amazing results every time... not to blow our own trumpet or anything :)
What is involved in the treatment?
First of all no glue and no false lashes are involved! For you, all you need to do is lay back on our comfy couch and close your eyes. You can even have a nap if you want to! You wont be the first and certainly won't be the last. We take it as a compliment.
How is it done?
Firstly we talk about what look you want to achieve. If you're not sure, we can advise you, but basically we just want to check how dramatic you want the effect to be.
We apply a shield under your eyes, to hold down your bottom lashes, as we don't want them getting caught in the lift. Then on your upper lid we apply a little lash shield which determines the strength of the lift at the end. We bring your lashes up onto it, to create the shape of your new lift and curl. After this we apply 2 different lotions and the tint and leave them to work their magic whilst you take a nap, listen to music or have chat with us. The whole process lasts about an hour.
We will never neglect your lashes here at Bambi, that is why we always coat your lashes with a generous amount of nourishing lotion afterwards, keeping them in perfect condition. So they will have a bit of a 'wet look' when you first see them.
What is the aftercare?
Maintenance of your brand new look is pretty straightforward and much simpler than extensions. For the first 48 hours it is important not to get them wet or hot (Like when the heat from the oven hits you when you open the door, best to avoid that one for a day or two).
After the first 48 hours is over, it's just a case of occasionally brushing through them with a clean mascara wand, and making sure you don't use waterproof mascara, as that takes a hell of a lot of rubbing to remove! Unlike extensions, all your usual facial oils etc are absolutely fine to use.
Who is it best for?
- Do you like minimal maintenance?
- Are you a get up and just go kind of morning person?
- Do you still want to be able to wear mascara and/or eyeliner?
- Prefer a more natural look?
If you answered 'yes' to any of the above questions, then a lash lift is definitely for you!
How often does it need to be done?
If you fall head over heels in love with your new wedding lashes, you can have them done again regularly as an everyday look. How regularly you have your lash lift done, really depends on your own lash cycle but usually, average is about 6-8 weeks. Which makes these the perfect hassle free, honeymoon option too!
They last about 6-8 weeks because that is that is the average amount of time it takes for the full life cycle of a lash to complete. So although the change in the hair is permanent, the hair itself is not.
Those with super thick lashes may need a 2nd booster treatment 4-5 weeks after first appointment to get a really strong lift, then after that we can carry on like normal (but this is really for superthick lashes!).
