INSPIRATION - 'Eternal Love', a Swan Lake Inspired Collaboration, Captured by Sephory Photography

7th August 2019

Couture fashion is not renowned for its eco/ethical credentials, but it offers a plethora of highly creative ideas which can be adapted to a more conscious outlook. Here's a beautifully styled concept, kindly submitted by submitted by Adorn Invitations, which brings together two key catwalk trends - tulle and feathers. Recycled/upcycled tulle is one way of capturing this trend sustainably, and ethically-souced feathers are becoming much easier to obtain (although this won't sit well with everyone's conscience, of course). Yet still, the feathery pampas grass gives alternative take on the trend, and the theme of 'Eternal Love' transcends every ethos. Recycled cardstock for stationery; organic and Fair Trade ingredients for the patisserie; recycled gold and ethical gems for the rings and jewellery; clean and cruelty-free make-up and skincare; local vendors, and a venue with existing opulance to reduce decor expense and waste, are just a few ways to morph couture into conscious, without any compromise on style. How many more can you think of?

Swan Lake themed styled shoot by Sephory Photography‘Swan Lake’ is known as one of the most famous and timeless love stories of all time. It is simply put, a masterpiece that celebrates love, sacrifice and romance. The ‘Eternal Love’ styled shoot takes inspiration from the famous Tchaikovsky ballet, recreating the core themes through the lens of couture bridal style and creative expression.

As the ballet premiered in the late 19thcentury, the style shoot takes place in a stunning venue adorned with French designer antiques from the time periods of 17thto 19thcentury. Each shot is framed with prestigious French embellished antique pieces created for the monarchs and royal court.

Feathered gowns are one of the biggest upcoming bridal trends for the year and year to come. The shoot features three gowns shipped straight from Paris Fashion Week from Alin Le’ Kal’s Spring/Summer 19 collection. Each gown celebrates a different persona, from an elegant and sophisticated silk gown with feathered top, a dark and bold feathered short dress, to the final white lavish feathered ball gown that is grand enough to fill an entire room.

As directed by the husband and wife team at Sephory Photography, there were many shots that celebrated the beauty of movements through the art of ballet dancing. The photographer used to be a ballerina herself, so she knew how capture the alluring romance behind the motions.

Asides from the gowns being feathered masterpieces and the graceful pearled veil, the make-up artist brought the art of feathers and pearls to the make-up looks, gluing black feathers to the eyes for the black swan look and stick-on pearls to the eyes for the white swan look. Matching with the golden antiques, the wedding cake and desserts reflected the theme to perfection with tempered white chocolate resembling feathers and brushes of lustrous gold.

At the centre of it all, the bride was dazzled from head to toe with luxurious bejewelled crowns, diamond jewellery, and glistening heels.
