The York House Wedding of Tindy & Bao, captured by Lily Sawyer, with flowers by Urban Flower FarmerToday's real Autumn wedding of Tindy and Bao at York House, Richmond, was kindy submitted by eco-florist Emma Sousa at Urban Flower Farmer. Emma will take us through the day and all the spectacular foam-free floral creations, all captured by Lily Sawyer Photography:

"When we worked on this beautiful wedding we had already been supplying flowers for Tindy’s family for several years, for family gatherings and special occasions, so they already knew we were eco friendly florists. Tindy’s Mum, actress Emma Thompson, is an avid eco campaigner and when I spoke with Bao she wanted to have seasonal, British flowers where possible which is perfect for us as this is what we specialize in locally grown British flowers, all arranged without the use of toxic floral foam or harmful plastics or pesticides. We have been a foam free business for around 18 months now and everything from the recycled jam jars to the twine to tie our bouquets is all recycled or recyclable……nothing goes to waste if at all possible and because we try not to import flowers from abroad we don’t have mountains of cellophane that ends up in landfill either….every little detail is thought about behind the scenes."

For this particular wedding we used Garden Roses (it was totally the end of rose season but we did it and used what was still available) and Dahlias which we grow lots of at our urban cutting patch in North West London.  Lots of British grown foliage was used such as Abelia, Diabolo, Scented Geranium, Jasmine trials and Mint and to me foliage can really make or break your arrangements. It’s a totally underestimated material and is a beautiful addition to any flowers….the more variety the better as far as I am concerned!"

"It was a small intimate day with close friends and family and I can honestly say that Tindy & Bao are just the nicest couple you could wish to meet…having said that all my clients are pretty nice people and many have become friends over the years.  I put it down to their love of all things eco friendly – if you love our planet then you have to be nice, right?"

They are being more flexible with flower varieties and even when it comes to colour some are saying, go with what is in season, we trust your judgment, which is great.  People are embracing the seasons and they are actually getting the best from their flowers by being a little bit flexible.  You can still ask for a certain color palette and look to your flowers but it means that your florist can work with the very best materials and do the very best job for your big day."
