My Background

My love for jewellery began from an early age when I would visit antique fairs with my mother, taking turns to point out the most unique and original pieces which caught our eye. We delighted in hearing the history of these treasured pieces. I dreamed that someday, I would create pieces of jewellery that held special value.

Raised in the north of Ireland, I was fortunate to be surrounded by the most beautiful, natural landscape. Vast skies, wild seas and rolling hills have all given me inspiration. Nature holds such beauty and it has never been a more important time to look after our planet. I want future generations to similarly enjoy nature in all its splendour. To do this, we must all do our bit for the environment. For me, this meant creating precious pieces of jewellery which wouldn't damage our planet or the people on it.

Gold mining can cause devastating damage to our environment including ravaging landscapes, destroying ecosystems and contaminating water supplies. Toxic substances can also be released as a by-product. For this reason, I made the decision to use recycled gold in my designs. I also ensure that I use conflict-free diamonds and gemstones that have been responsibly cut.

My Inspiration

I love to go for walks and always carry a notebook with me so that I can sketch whenever inspiration strikes. The inspiration for the Skyset collection came from the skyline. Looking up and seeing the bold outlines of modern architecture set against the colourful backdrop of the sky. In particular, the dynamic shades of pink and blue present during those special times of day - sunrise and sunset. My hope is that you capture a glimpse of that captivating skyline whenever you see a Ziorva piece!

Design Development

I refine each of my sketches until each piece brings delight and fits effortlessly into the collection. From there, I create detailed technical drawings, using mathematical measurements. These drawings show the intricate details of the pieces from different angles. Each technical drawing is brought to life in a 3D model through the form of Computer Aided Design. A delicate wax model of the piece is then created which preserves the intricacies of each design.

From there, a special mould is formed from which the item can be cast in solid gold. The gold used in the casting process by Ziorva is 100% recycled, solid gold. It is cast with the utmost care in a boutique facility in the UK. The recycled gold is sourced from a member of the Responsible Jewellery Council who only uses "conflict-free" minerals, ensuring that the recycled gold is produced in a socially correct as well as ethically & environmentally sound manner. Any additional solid gold components required to finalise Ziorva designs are also responsibly sourced.

Once the items are cast, they are delivered to expert craftsmen in London's iconic Hatton Garden who carefully finish and polish each piece. Each gemstone is set, with love, by hand, using the utmost care and precision. I hand-select each of the gemstones, paying particular attention to their radiance and meaning. Did you know that gemstones have unique qualities? I use a variety of coloured stones in my jewellery - not only for their enchanting colour but also because I love the meanings behind each stone. My range includes diamonds which represent love & strength, sapphires which denote wisdom & happiness, rose quartz which promotes positive love energy, tanzanite which celebrates life & new beginnings and topaz which signifies loyalty. The gemstones are sourced from a reputable company who has taken the time to visit the factories where they are produced, confident that employees are treated well and fairly. Only conflict-free diamonds, which adhere to the Kimberley Process, are featured in Ziorva jewellery. You can read more about the Kimberley Process here.

After the pieces are beautifully finished, they are hallmarked by the iconic Goldsmith's Assay Office in London (or the historic Birmingham Assay Office), certifying that they are solid gold. I then carefully package each one in luxurious boxes which I’ve chosen for a very special reason! Rather than using plastic in the construction of the casing, I use a special form of robust card & strong paper. To add a sense of occasion, this unique card is encased by an elegant, wonderfully tactile fabric. The inner lid is embossed with a delicate gold Ziorva logo and the gift box is beautifully finished with a soft satin bow.

Both paper and card used in the construction of the gift box are acid-free and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The FSC is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the promotion of responsible forest management worldwide. It guarantees that harvested trees are replaced or allowed to regenerate naturally whilst ensuring that rare animals and plants are protected within forests. Overall, FSC certification gives an assurance that future generations will be able to enjoy the benefits of the forest.

All gift boxes are delicately wrapped in soft, branded tissue paper. In addition to being FSC certified, each piece of tissue paper is fully recyclable and created using water-based ink. The gift boxes are then securely placed in compact packaging boxes which, once again, are FSC certified and recyclable.
