INTRODUCING - Bambi - vegan wedding hair and make up artist
11th March 2019
I'm delighted to welcome Bambi to GREEN UNION, a vegan hair and make up service based in Kent, run by the lovely Gina. By way of introduction, Gina has compiled some expert tips on getting the most of our hair and make up trial ahead of the big day itself.
I know it seems daunting finding someone that matches your lifestyle and ethics, but it doesn’t mean you need to compromise on getting your perfect look. With that in mind, I have put together a guide on how to get the most out of your hair and makeup artist and how to get the most out of your trial.
It’s not easy finding someone to fit your style; not only is it important for them to fit in with your eco friendly wedding goals, but they also need to have a kit full of cruelty free makeup brands. Plus, in an ideal world, you want all their kit to include vegan makeup brands and vegan makeup brushes too. After all, beauty does start on the inside. But that’s why you are here at Green Union, you beautiful soul!
Pinterest is your friend
Be careful though, don’t say I didn’t warn you that Pinterest can be highly addictive! It is such a great platform to look for wedding hair styles, makeup styles, bridal hair pieces, flower hair pieces and just about anything you can think of. You can put them all in one handy board to show to your artist when you go for your trial.
One thing I do suggest doing is creating a board of bridal hair up ideas you love and a board of ideas you really don’t like; I do have a method behind the madness here. Imagine things from your bridal hair and makeup artists point of view. You are just as much of a stranger to them as they are to you; they don’t know how you dress or what your style is. Having a collection of things that are a definite ‘no’ will really help your artist get to understand what it is you are looking for. Even if you don’t know the exact style you want yet, it will be a huge help in finding a base point to start from when finding your perfect look.
Make sure you have photos of your dress handy
Talking of pictures, this takes us on to your second tip. Depending on the wedding dress you have chosen, it can really have a huge impact on what hairstyle will suit best. Imagine falling in love with that stunning design down the back of your gown only to realise the hair you chose covers up all the best detail!
It’s important to be open and honest with your artist
Tell them what you do day to day and tell them what you do for a night out. Even if it’s usually nothing. It will be really helpful for your artist to know what you are used to seeing so they can create a look that you feel like yourself in. Because after all, you do want to feel like yourself when walking down the aisle, a flawless, accentuated you.
Your wedding day isn’t usually the time to be trying something completely new. I mean, each to their own, but you don’t want to look back at photos in the years to come and think that you don’t even look like yourself. Be beautiful, be you!
Have an open mind
When at the trial, this is your chance to try different looks even if you are pretty sure you know what you want. I have worked with brides before who thought they knew exactly what style was ‘the one’ but once we had finished the look, they just didn’t feel right and ended up going for something completely different. Don’t just settle on your first idea, your artist knows what they are doing, and if you are not sure, ask them what they think will suit you. You never know what they might come up with.
Ask them anything!
It’s also the time to be asking all of the questions you can think of. Timings, orders, how to prep in the days on the build up to your wedding. Just about anything you have on your mind at all really.
But most of all enjoy it!
Make the most of your pampering, it’s not every day we get to play dress up with a professional hair and makeup artist!
