After months of research, planning and sheer hard graft I’m ecstatic that Green Union’s shiny new website is up and running. What a fabulous way to bring on the festive season!
Green Union has just celebrated its 8th birthday and I’m over the moon at what we have achieved during that time, nurturing a mainstream trend from its tiny seed to full bloom. We have a loyal following that love what we do and a substantial wedding directory packed with dedicated suppliers and services and we continue to support and encourage couples and businesses to go that extra mile in creating sustainable weddings.
Some time ago here at GU HQ we knew it was time to renew and refresh the website, reflecting current and future trends while embracing the social networking culture that has crept up on us while we were growing up.
Green Union still has the same old philosophy at heart, aimed at couples who fancy throwing natural green, alternative weddings, want to spend their hard earned and saved cash wisely, support local producers, use seasonal food and flowers, hire venues that have the environment at their heart, create do-it-yourself weddings, throw festival or vintage style weddings or even have an eco-chic wedding right in the heart of the city. So nothing has changed except the overall user experience and absolute joy of galloping through a website full of inspiration and information then being able to share that with others over the networks!
You must have guessed already, I’m thrilled with our new look and really do hope that you love it too.
It won’t take long to get used to the changes because, as we developed the new website, we've made sure the user experience would be even better than before with everything easy to access and those all important wedding suppliers right at the click of your fingers. The biggest two changes have been the use of beautiful images from some very talented photographers and all our lovely wedding suppliers, plus masses of detailed information on each and every supplier listed in our wedding directory.
The home page is filled with clickable boxes that help you navigate around the site and you will also find our key menu at the top of the page with an all important dropdown ‘show/hide’ Supplier Finder menu for clutter free browsing. When you click on a Category within the Supplier Finder you will then be able to search subcategories and themes through our nifty little ‘breadcrumbs’ within the wedding directory itself. There’s also a search bar at the top right hand side of the site, above the menu bar to help you find suppliers within your chosen area or theme, a UK wide map of supppliers plus location maps on each and every supplier’s dedicated page. Every supplier is still credited with a green gauge on a scale of 1 to 10 so that you have an eco friendly benchmark of choice when searching for your wedding suppliers. You'll also find a list of events and offers on every suppliers dedicated page.
Useful menus covering wedding planning guides and blog categories can be found within the body of the site as you explore the Advice and Planning pages and the Blog and, in each of these sections, you will find a search bar which will help you to search for specific subjects or tags. Go on, give it a go!
We’ve still got a bit of work to do over the next few weeks as the user experience kicks in big time, with a few more tweeks all designed to streamline the website and add to the pleasure and ease of visiting Green Union and making it your ‘go to’ wedding planning tool. There are bound to be a few bugs here and there and I’d be really grateful for your support in helping to identify where they are – if you spot something that doesn’t look right, please feel free to email me on email@example.com and report the error.
My collaboration with the techies at Alacrify has really come up trumps. Supercoders with nothing too much trouble and no outlandish request dismissed, they have really pulled out all the stops to produce this beautiful website, guide me through the migration process and hold my hand during all the wobbly moments when transferring over 1000 web pages seemed too daunting a task to comtemplate! Most importantly, nursing the website through the propagation so we didn’t drop out of your site, was triumphantly handled.
My heartfelt thanks also go to super talented photographers Gary Lashmar (aka Marshal Gray), the lovely Claudia Rose Carter and Matt Parry for so generously supplying Green Union with their and artitistic and totally on trend wedding photographs, without which the website would be a mere ghost of itself.
What a wonderful way to celebrate the festive season and take us on to 2015 and another fabulous year of successful wedding planning and many, many more green unions ...
