INSPIRATIONAL EDITORIAL: Between Land And Sea: An Artisanal Beach Elopement, Captured By Cleya Asulon In The South Of FranceI have a long-standing love affair with beach weddings - from windswept isles to tropical islands and everything in between. This gorgeous styled shoot took place on the sandy shore of a large lake at Cazaux in the South of France. Photographer Cleya Asulon devised the concept and captured the beauty of the region and the glorious September light to perfection.

Planner and stylist, Béatrice of Oui Mon Chou, is partnered with EcoMariages, a French wedding initiative promoting sustainable practices in the industry. Cleya called on Béatrice to bring her concept for the marriage of ‘a modern-day mermaid and her land lover, ready to unite for life in a setting between land and sea’:

This immediately inspired us: we imagined an authentic atmosphere, in the heart of one of the many magnificent natural sites in our region. Naturally, the team of vendors would bring together local talents with ecological and sustainable values.

The Bride & Groom

Canopée Paris provided the bridal separates, which were accessorised with handmade jewellery by Mok Mok Ceramic and a porcelain flower bridal crown by Rachel Suhubiette. The bridal look was completed with a dried flower bouquet by Merry Blossom.

Stéphane’s attire was provided by Hast Paris.

The Ceremony

It was decorated in a contemporary style with dried and preserved flower groupings by Merry Blossom. I adore the idea of exchanging everlasting shell garlands as part of the ceremony!

The Tablescape

These were arranged on and around the table, a reclaimed wooden cabinet stained to resemble driftwood by La Planche à Clou, which Béatrice describes as ‘an element that perfectly connects land and water’:

The dyes and materials used were all natural: ceramic, wood, linen, gauze, silk, seashells, dried flowers and foraged features; each handmade object was ethically made in small batches in France.

The Portraits

The models are real lovers, married, parents, and crazy about their region. They helped bring out the authenticity and timelessness that we wanted to give the shoot. Like love, which we believe to be beyond time, beyond all limits, our mermaid and her lover come together between land and sea, strangers to everything other than their own moment.

I hope you've enjoyed this inspiration as much as I have - my thanks to the team for sharing it with GREEN UNION!
