REAL WEDDING - The Simply Beautiful Spring Wedding of Hannah and Phil at Dodford Manor, Captured By GREEN UNION Partner, Ed Brown Photography

24th June 2020

Hannah and Phil married on the perfect Spring day; their wedding day was full of natural seasonal styling and homemade personal touches - ideal inspiration for eco-conscious couples!

REAL WEDDING - The Simply Beautiful Spring Wedding of Hannah and Phil at Dodford Manor, Captured By GREEN UNION Partner, Ed Brown PhotographyOur love story began with the thrilling ping of a tinder match! The proposal was a complete surprise two years into our relationship. Phil smuggled the ring in a HUGE box (pass the parcel style!) in his suitcase on Hannah’s surprise birthday weekend away at Coombe Abbey. Phil enlisted the help of Hannah’s mum to choose the ring and it was just beautiful. The night was perfect, complete with fireworks immediately after the big moment as it was the 2nd of November and the closest weekend to bonfire night.

REAL WEDDING - The Simply Beautiful Spring Wedding of Hannah and Phil at Dodford Manor, Captured By GREEN UNION Partner, Ed Brown Photography - welcomeIt wasn’t a long engagement, just 5 months from November to April, but we fell in love with the venue – the first and only venue we looked at – and they had an available date right in the middle of the Easter holidays (we both worked in schools so it worked great!). It sounds like it might have been stressful planning everything in a relatively short amount of time, but it really wasn’t. We were lucky enough that all the suppliers we wanted were available (probably because it was a Wednesday!) and everything else fell into place.

We’re not an extravagant couple, so it was never going to be an over the top wedding. The most important thing to us was that everybody we love could be there to celebrate with us and have a great time – so a good band, delicious food (crowd-pleasing “posh bangers and mash!”) and a photographer to capture our favourite memories of the day were essential. But other than that, we tried to keep things simple.

REAL WEDDING - The Simply Beautiful Spring Wedding of Hannah and Phil at Dodford Manor, Captured By GREEN UNION Partner, Ed Brown Photography - DIYWe didn’t really have a theme, although it was a bit of a DIY affair. We got quite creative making lots of bits ourselves including the invitations, order of services, wedding favours (Easter themed handmade knitted chicks stuffed with Cadbury’s cream eggs!), place settings and wedding signage out of old pallets. We called in lots of favours too including a friend making our incredible table plan out of reclaimed wood. A videographer friend filmed the whole day and another made our wedding cake, so everything was really personal.

REAL WEDDING - The Simply Beautiful Spring Wedding of Hannah and Phil at Dodford Manor, Captured By GREEN UNION Partner, Ed Brown Photography - venueWe wanted a rustic feel which Dodford’s Mortain barn captured really well. We also love walking, travelling and being outdoors, so we gave our florist the brief of “bringing the outside in” using lots of green and white foliage, which together with the backdrop of rolling fields and Dodford’s beautiful courtyard was just exactly how we dreamed it. And the sun shone ALL day!

REAL WEDDING - The Simply Beautiful Spring Wedding of Hannah and Phil at Dodford Manor, Captured By GREEN UNION Partner, Ed Brown Photography - venue viewsWe genuinely do try to do our bit for the environment in our everyday lives and try to be mindful of our impact on the planet in what we do. We hope this was reflected on our wedding day with the handmade touches. Other than flowers and a few fairy lights, we had no other decorations – it was very much fuss-free and natural.

Words of Wisdom

It’s so hard to be unique when wedding planning (Pinterest proves it has all been done before!), but we would recommend getting creative, making things yourself, recycling and reusing where you can – if, for nothing else, it often saves money and adds a really personal touch.

Other than that, enjoy EVERY moment. The day goes by too fast and you will find yourselves saying “can we do it again!?” for months/years after! Post-wedding blues are REAL!!

Huge thanks to Hannah, Phil and Ed Brown Photography for sharing these beautiful images with GREEN UNION!

Some great ideas to take away from their wedding include:

  • Bridal preparations were on site to reduce transportation needs.
  • Decorations were kept natural and minimal, letting the character of the venue shine through.
  • Reusing styling items/florals throughout the day (those churns full of blossoms and the wreath definitely earned their keep!).
  • Making it a team effort.
  • DIY projects, especially those using upcycled materials.
  • Using the same musicians throughout the day.
