Since the COVID-19 virus came to the UK, the world as we know it has been changed in ways we could scarcely have anticipated. Most of us have had to radically change the way we work, the way we live and the amount of time we’re able to spend with the people who mean the most to us. If you were supposed to be married while the lockdown was in place, the lockdown has likely struck a significant blow to your arrangements, your morale and potentially your relationship. Fortunately, comparatively few people have cancelled their weddings outright, although there are a great many who have had to postpone theirs until the end of 2020 or, more likely, 2021 or even later. Yet, while this may feel like a devastating blow to you and your other half, even the darkest clouds are ringed with a silver lining.

While you will likely struggle to perceive them at the moment, there are many ways in which having to postpone your wedding until after the virus is a distant memory and social distancing is a thing of the past may be advantageous.
For instance...
No matter how soon after getting engaged they start planning, most couples find themselves less and less in control of the wedding preparations as the big day looms near. This extra time gives you more of what you’ve been lacking… the ability to better prepare, save money and feel more in control of the process. You can also start to work in more ways to make the big day more sustainable from reworking your outfit to switching to plant-based catering.
The trouble with wedding planning is that as human beings we have a tendency to change our minds. And the things that we were 100% certain about 6 months ago may now seem a lot more dubious. Fortunately, you have the gift of time now. You can revisit popular wedding gown styles and find ways to rework your gown (or look for something new if you have not yet bought yours). You can suggest alternative entrees to your caterer. You can take the time to reconsider the things that you’re less than 100% sure about.
The lockdown has been a trial by fire for many couples all over the world. In China, divorce rates soared after the lockdown was lifted. However, by the time you and your betrothed are ready to emerge from the lockdown you will do so with the knowledge that your relationship is able to withstand anything the world can throw at it.
Finally, it’s important to remember that anticipation can be extremely beneficial for us psychologically. You may have had to sacrifice your date of choice, but you have a beautiful wedding to look forward to and the extension of that anticipation will only make the day itself sweeter!
