REAL WEDDING - The Timelessly Stylish Late Summer Wedding Of Emma and Rob At Mythe Barn, Leicestershire, Captured By Ed Brown Photography

10th June 2020

Today's real wedding inspiration comes courtesy of GREEN UNION Partner, Ed Brown Photography. Emma and Rob tied the knot at the beautiful Mythe Barn wedding venue in Leicestershire in September 2019. With lots of creative details and natural touches, their day was characterised by timeless style and heaps of love!

The Happy Couple

"Rob and I crossed each other’s paths since 2004, working within the telecoms industry within several different telecoms companies; but in 2013, we met again after a few years in a nightclub, the rest was history! Rob moved into my home in Nuneaton, and in June 2015 we bought our first house. Holidays and parties were happening, but in November 2015 we found out we were pregnant with our first baby, and on 14th July 2016, our beautiful daughter Savannah Grace Loakes was born at 3 weeks early, weighing 6 lbs 3 oz.

On 10th October 2017, Robert proposed and I was so gobsmacked! We were on a family holiday in Playa Blanca in Lanzarote and Rob's birthday was the next day. He said that his Mum, Gloria, was babysitting so we could go on a boat trip. We got on the yacht, apparently to pick up the rest for snorkelling; Rob knows I hate water so I was a bit on edge. The boat staff asked if we'd fancy a private stop before we collected everyone else, so as I jumped in I shouted "Shark!" and Rob dived in! When we got out, I giggled and cried as Rob passed me the phone and said mum had just sent a photo saying that Savannah was doing her first steps - but instead, in the photo, she was in a babygrow sleeping - and on the babygrow, it said 'Mummy, will you marry Daddy?' - I looked down and he was on one knee; bubbles and FaceTimes later, and we were getting married!"

The Venue & The Vision

Mythe Barn Wedding Venue, Ed Brown PhotographyMythe Barn Wedding Venue Details, Ed Brown PhotographyEmma and Rob planned their wedding over an 18-month period. Having viewed several venues they fell in love with environmentally-conscious Mythe Barn - the rural oak-framed barn is set in acres of idyllic Midlands countryside, so it's easy to see why! This beautiful venue uses solar power and feeds its surplus green energy back into the grid, and they have planted 12000 trees to offset their carbon footprint. They work with a paper- and printing-reduced office, and conserve both energy use and wastage. Their on-site caterers source from local sustainable producers, limiting food miles and supporting the community, and there's even a Zero to Landfill policy on all waste!

The couple wanted to make their wedding a day that they wouldn’t forget; they wanted it to be relaxed and fun, and for the day to flow so that everyone would leave smiling, with memories they wouldn’t forget either. Emma loves flowers and being creative, and Rob loves entertainment, so these elements dominated their plans for the day. At the same time, they were concerned to make their wedding an eco one by making use of as many natural elements as they things natural as they could.

Looking at the images captured by Ed Brown Photography, it's clear that their vision most definitely came true!

The Bridal Party Preparations

Bridal Preparations, Mythe Barn Wedding, Ed Brown PhotographyMythe Barn has a spacious on-site bridal party preparation suite, which is ideal for reducing costs and emissions on additional transportation on the day.

Amy Louise Beauty and Mack Hair and Beauty did a beautiful job on creating naturally flattering makeup and hair looks on Emma and her ten bridesmaids!

The Dresses

Her bridesmaids' dusky pink dresses were from TNFC London and all wore their own comfortable shoes; Emma treated them all to gifts bags with dressing gowns, earrings, prosecco glasses and wine!

Savannah wore a dress from WED2B, which they found whilst walking down Baker Street in London.

The Flowers

Hannah designed beautiful centrepieces (some of which were first put to work in the ceremony setting); they also rented candles, a card box, deck chairs and blankets from her.

The Groom

He bought navy chinos and bow ties from ASOS and double-breasted beige jackets from Moss Bros with brown brogues - and all have been worn again!"

Music was a key part of their day and Mango Acoustic played during the daytime. To keep the kids entertained, these retro space hoppers definitely did the trick!

She used Polaroid-style pictures as name places from Photobox for everyone to keep to remember the day, as well as inexpensive personalised wristbands from eBay.

And how about these incredible cake pops, presented in clouds of dry ice, as a special pre-dessert surprise?!

DIY & Personal Touches

Our guest book was made from lengths of reused wood which everyone signed and is now hanging up in our home."

My thanks to Emma and Rob for sharing their wedding day with GREEN UNION!

The key inspiration points are:

  • Choose a venue with strong eco-credentials, especially one with on-site bridal party preparation space and responsible catering included.
  • Choosing local suppliers and especially those with existing eco-credentials.
  • DIY and personal touches sourced from your own home and/reused in it afterwards.
  • Letting natural elements (e.g. flowers) dominate the styling.
  • Reusing elements of styling throughout the day (e.g. floral arrangements).
  • Hire instead of buy, or make sure your purchases are reusable.
