About Green Union

Hello lovelies and thanks for dropping by!  Perhaps you’re wondering who we are and what we’re all about.

Green Union is a wedding resource and supplier directory focused on stylish and sustainable wedding celebrations.

The website was founded by me, Rosie Ames in 2007 and it's come a long way since our first pioneering steps towards a new wedding trend that's become, let's face it, downright mainstream.

The idea that couples could throw greener weddings came to me in a roundabout way, but always from a background of design and an on-going lifetime commitment to environmental responsibility. Based on my personal values, Green Union is committed to helping you make your wedding a truly stylish and sustainable event. I aim to make it straight forward for you to create the perfect eco-chic wedding celebration while taking the environment into consideration and without compromising on the gorgeous!

Passionate about the natural and committed to social justice since my childhood in Africa and a background of 20 years in fashion design embodies my ethos of contemporary style with a conscience. I founded Green Union in seven years ago and still work on it from our HQ in North Devon which is run, as much as possible, on environmentally conscious principles.

My lovely husband, David Ames makes naturally beautiful furniture to commission, using sustainable woods and local timber right here next door to GU HQ.  When he's not immersed in wood shavings he supports me on the financial side of the GU operation.  You can check out his furniture here.

Together with other committed and creative individuals, we continue to pioneer a return to stylish and naturally sustainable weddings, in an industry where around 300,000 marriages will take place in the UK worth a whopping £10 billion each year!  According to Hitched W.I.F.E. statistics taken in 2011, the total cost of planning an engagement through to the honeymoon, including the wedding day celebration, here in the UK collectively costs a little over £36,000, with over half of the bill falling towards the wedding guests.  Makes you think doesn't it?

We are dedicated to living and working a sustainable life and, while we'd never claim to be perfect, we make heaps of effort to embrace the guiding principles outlined in our Green Gauge.

Do you like the beautiful vintage wedding portrait on the home page?  It's David and me on our wedding day way back when!  Our great friend, and portrait photographer, Robert Barber captured it for us as a wedding gift - absolutely the best momento of a happy day that a couple could get!

Wedding planning can be a daunting prospect, but it needn't be. Just take a deep breath and rummage through our pages of information, advice and useful tips for throwing an eco friendly wedding. We'll take you through the planning process from start to finish. Have a wonderful journey!
