Five quick & easy ways to have a greener celebration

If you don't have a lot of money or time, here are five quick, easy and simple steps to styling your green wedding or celebration.

First consider the three Rs:

REDUCE the amount of stuff you purchase.
Less is more. Don't over buy food or supplies, this just adds to the waste of natural resources and your hard earned cash.

REUSE or borrow whatever you can.
Events styled with the use of antique crockery and linen, plus a mix of flower vases and candlesticks borrowed or found in antique and charity shops have a special charm. This'll not only add an eco-chic dimension but will create a great feel good factor.

RECYCLE.
At your reception venue ask them to arrange to have separate bins to dispose of glass bottles, plastic, aluminium, card and paper. Ask your caterers, if they're bringing food in to make sure they dispose of their containers in the appropriate bins. Arrange for someone to take these bins to the local recycling centre if there is no immediate collection in the area Ask your florists to compost all their green waste.

Also:

DONATE leftovers too. This includes food, unopened drinks and decorations like live plants or cut flowers. These items will be happily accepted by nursing homes or hospitals. Check the local area listings for organizations to support and arrange deliveries to be made after your event.

OFFSET the emissions of your event by asking guests to pay a suggested amount. Alternatively calculate the total emissions produced by all your guests travelling to your celebration and donate an amount yourself.
