Beautiful British Grown Seasonal Wedding Flowers
Denise Johnson of The Garden Gate Southwold grows and styles beautiful British grown seasonal flowers for weddings and other celebrations. Working very closely with our clients we create individual unique scented bouquets and other romantic floral creations to decorate your wedding venue.
In 2011 Denise retrained in floristry and horticulture and set up a cutting garden. This has flourished into a thriving business creating florals for weddings around Norfolk and Suffolk, including a collaboration with Somerleyton Hall, the home of Lord and Lady Somerleyton on the Norfolk/Suffolk border.
We are based in Southwold and many of our weddings are sunny country or seaside affairs, based locally, which we love. The light here makes for wonderful pictures!
We decorate weddings with British grown flowers all year round … winter weddings included.
In winter we use our own forced bulbs and lots of foliage, suplemented with flowers from larger British growers growing undercover.
Through the rest of the year, during the outdoor growing season, we collaborate with other local growers so that, in addition to our own homegrown flowers, we have a large range of beautiful locally grown British flowers.
Working sustainably and in sympathy with the environment is central to our ethos. Minimising the use of floral foam and using locally grown flowers has enabled us to work in a way that sits comfortably with our green vision and is something we feel really passionate about. It has not compromised our style or quality, in fact we think it has enhanced it. Our blooms are incredibly fresh, having been nurtured from seed to flower, allowing them to grow naturally. This has led to a real flourishing of creativity here at The Garden Gate.
NOTE: Fairtrade Roses from The Real Flower Company are occasionally sourced in the winter if brides insist on Roses out of season - these have the best eco credentials I can find in that they are flown back in spare space on passenger flights. We very, very occasionally buy in imported flowers after crop failures.
