Latest Wedding Events, Workshops & Courses for the Brides Diary | GREEN UNION

The thing about British Flowers Week is that it’s a celebration of the flowers that are grown here in the UK.

Importantly its worth remembering that it’s not only about supporting our British growers but also focuses on realising that you can use seasonal British grown flowers and foliage all year round.

It's about encouraging eco friendly and sustainable practises, not only in the florist industry generally but in the wedding business in particular, encouraging brides to consider where their flowers originate, to support their local flower farmers and opt for flowers that are 'grown, not flown' - loving them to pieces!

Her favourite look for flowers is one of seasonal gathering from the garden and hedgerows; of simplistic whim and effortless style. She pictures Marianne walking down frothy country lanes to the village church to marry Colonel Brandon in Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility, laughing gaily and creating her wedding bouquet on the way, picking flowers from the cottage gardens and hedgerows and finishing the bunch off with a simple ribbon.

It’s this image of easy perfection that Rachel Petheram of Catkin Flowers loves most of all.

If you love cut flowers, care about where they come from and how they are grown, then stunning British cut flowers from our lovely friends at Organic Blooms could be just what you’ve been looking for for your own wedding!

Organic Blooms is a cut flower farm near Bristol where they grow and sell beautiful seasonal flowers sustainably and without the use of artificial chemicals. They were awarded Soil Association Organic Certification in February 2017 and are, in fact, one of the very first Soil Association certified organic flower growers in the UK - an achievement that they are incredibly proud of - congratulations to the whole team!

British Flowers Week kicks off today!

British Flowers Week is the annual celebration of hard working flower farmers and florists that grow and produce those fabulous British seasonal flowers that I consider worthy of gracing greener weddings that reflect my own passion for naturally beautiful flowers.

The ethos of these creative entrepreneurs is that they care deeply about the environment and are committed to conducting their businesses in harmony with nature. Although many are not certified, they tend to use organic growing practices integrating sustainability into every corner of their work and pouring their hearts into cultivating the finest flowers for your natural weddings.
