SEASONAL INSPIRATION: Create a DIY flower crown for British Flowers Week

Who doesn’t love a pretty flower crown?

Ever since I started creating beautiful flowers for weddings and even now, to get away from the laptop, I’ve always loved making floral wreaths, especially when they are to mark a special occasion, as a gorgeous gift for a friend, for a beautiful Bo.ho bride or simply to celebrate the changing seasons.

So, to celebrate British Flowers Week, I thought it would be fun to for you to get out in the garden, or head out to your local market or flower farm, pick some beautiful seasonal June flowers and, using this easy step-by-step DIY guide from our lovely friends over on The Pretty Blog, make yourself one just because you can.

Give it a go, have fun making it and share the idea with your friends!

Tools and materials:

Sharp scissors, 10-15 pieces of floral wire, a roll of floral tape, flowers and foliage of your choice (at this time of the year, for instance, you can use snapdragons, roses, peonies, love-in-a-mist, sweet peas, cow parsley, etc.), ribbon or similar, approx. 60cm of thick wire to make a base frame.

How to create:

Make a loop with some thick wire, big enough to fit around your head, and make two little loops at each end by folding the wire back and around itself. This will be the base of your wreath.

Add ribbon, lace or torn fabric strands (to echo your theme) around the loops at the end of the wire base to use as ties.

Snip off the blooms you want to use so they have about 7 cm of stem and remove all foliage from the stems.

Make lots of little bundles of flowers, mixing and matching elements and textures as you like. Wrap them together tightly, first with some floral wire and then with floral tape. Leave about 10 cm of the tape at the end of each bundle.

When you have several bundles made, begin attaching them to the wire base loop. Use the tail of tape on each to secure the flower bundle to the wire. You can also use some extra floral wire to wrap around the stems to secure it even more. Continue adding the bundles in the same direction until the wreath is complete.

Once you have the hang of it you can create anything you like - your imagination is your only limitation!
