THE GUIDE: Sumptuous Winter Wedding Flowers

Well, we thought we’d ask the lovely Rachel at Catkin Flowers how hard it really is for an eco friendly bride to source seasonally and locally during the darkest months on the year.  Rachel specialises in decorating beautifully natural weddings using seasonal and locally grown (some of her own) flowers. This is what she told us:

“Clients often worry, if they’re throwing a winter wedding, that they will not be able to have anything flower filled and spectacular.

While it is true that summer flowers, like peonies and roses, are not available there are other luscious choices such as anemones, deliciously scented paper whites and hyacinths. We also used birch twigs and pine cones with dried hydrangeas and allium heads plus a selection of gorgeous winter foliage. It’s a great opportunity to go with the season and create something frosted and magical.

For instance, last week we used anemones and paper whites as the main flowers for this beautiful winter wedding.  We also used birch twigs and pine cones with dried hydrangeas and allium heads plus a selection of winter foliage to create dramatic centre pieces, a stunning bouquet and other decor.

All are British grown except the Brunia berries (silver bobbly berry) which I couldn’t resist for the soft grey colour and texture!”

Thanks Rachel, these lovely images just prove how beautiful a winter winter can be using all the varied flowers and foliage that are available at this time of the year so let the winter light shine on your own ideas!
