Sshh… wedding yurts - fabulous spaces in beautiful places

A common theme coming from some of our visitor enquiries about the fabulous yurts that we advertise on Green Union seems to be: ‘they look amazing but what actually is a yurt and how can I use it for my wedding?’

So we asked new kids in the directory Sshh… who are based in Brighton, to elaborate and this is what they told us:

"A yurt is a traditional structure originating in the high mountain steppes of central Asia, designed to be portable enough to be carried by yak (or truck in our case) to pretty much anywhere. The concertinaed lattice design is quick to set up while the beautiful roof ribs and their positioning actually act to streamline the yurt and protect it in the event of heavy winds and snowfall. Once the frame is up, the yurt is covered with a breathable canvas to keep out the rest of the weather and insulate the structure, while giving it a nice warm glow inside.

Yurts are a great alternative to the traditional marquee for your wedding; a beautiful and atmospheric space in which to celebrate with family, friends and guests. Our bespoke event and wedding Yurts feature higher walls than a standard Yurt, providing a spacious and light space, whilst retaining the warmth which Yurts are renowned for. A simple yet classic cream-coloured canvas forms the outer layer, with a traditional wooden interior that permits you to decorate to your own taste and style, all manufactured here in the UK. The specially designed hard floor is also raised off the ground so you can celebrate for as long as you like, regardless of the weather. It also means you can have a dining area, bar and dance floor all under one roof. The intrinsic wheel-like design of the yurt crown floods the space with natural light and the breathable cream canvas cover allows soft light to suffuse the space, creating a warm yet fresh environment.

The yurts can be podded together; this is simply done by joining one yurt to another to create different room-like spaces. It also provides the possibility of a larger space, as well as offering a variety of design options to suit your specific requirements. "

What we also love about Sshh…Yurts is that their tents are made by British craftsmen using sustainable British timber and real cotton canvas right here in the UK, and their commitment to keeping their carbon footprint to a minimum is extremely high.
