Eco-chic wedding fair at the Green House hotel

We heard that during marriage week, which ends today, couples were being encouraged to focus on actively nurturing their relationships (something we feel strongly about) and it seems a natural extension for them to nurture the environment and their local communities too. So it seems fitting that on Sunday February 26, the Green House hotel is hosting an Alternative Wedding Fair showcasing the cream of environmentally friendly wedding suppliers, bringing inspiration to couples planning to wed in the South of England.

Inspiration for brides-to-be will fill the luxurious, award winning, four-star hotel in Bournemouth. Organic, fair-trade, recycled and vintage wedding wares from florists to photographers and everything in between will help couples to be considerate in their eco-chic wedding choices.

wco_wedding_gowns.jpg

One of our favourite labels, the House of Tammam will be there to show off a selection of eco-couture wedding dresses for the chic bride who cares about ethics. A trailblazer of the eco-luxury movement, all Tammam wedding dresses are a perfect marriage of style, quality and sustainability. Lucy Tammam said she's really excited to be showing her eco-wedding dresses at the Green House along with so many fantastic sustainable suppliers at an amazing location.

It should be a great day for southern brides and grooms-to-be to find out how to include an ethical aspect to their wedding and it's a great opportunity for eco-friendly wedding vendors to reach a market outside London who might not know they exist.

green_house.jpg

Sarah Pavett, event manager of The Green House hotel, said: "As the UK's greenest hotel, we wanted to create an Alternative Wedding Fair to illustrate the many ways that couple can make sure the planet doesn't pay the price for their special day. A thoughtfully planned menu for the breakfast, organic wedding cake, recycled or FSC stationery and a vintage or even ethical wedding dress all gain eco-points."

WHAT? Alternative Wedding Fair

WHEN? Sunday February 26th

WHERE?
The Green House Hotel, Bournemouth

Eclectic eco-chic London wedding

What we love about the weddings that our fans throw is the total individuality of them and the irresistible melting pot of cultures that boil over!

st_pancras.jpg

Ethical wedding photographer, Emma Stoner sent us lovely photos of Jenny and Peter's Jewish wedding held right in the heart of the City at the iconic newly refurbished St Pancras Renaissance Hotel. The couple chose the spot for it's unique character and convenient location not far from their North London flat, so helping to cut down on travel. This beautiful building, with its stylish Victorian inspired interiors and Gothic romantic architecture provides an excellent setting for a wedding.

Autumn inspired eco friendly wedding shoot

Wedding stylist Sue Fyfe-Williams of Aunties Vintage China recently sent us this lovely Autumn inspired photo shoot at Welsh Green Weddings, a distinctly different wedding venue that offers a multitude of options for couples to plan a unique, individual wedding which reflects their values and choices.

welsh_green_weddings_shoot.jpg

Newly licensed for weddings earlier this year, wonderful Welsh Green Weddings is a beautiful and versatile eco friendly wedding venue near Llandysul, Ceridigion. The Dairy and Byre are both licensed for wedding ceremonies and, while larger weddings may need a marquee, smaller more intimate wedding receptions can fit snugly into the dairy. There is a great choice of accommodation for your guests ranging from cosy dormitory-type rooms in the adjacent Ceridwen Centre, bedrooms in the farmhouse and the byre, a yurt and an original, beautifully decorated Romany caravan. Couples who choose to spend their wedding night in the Romany caravan, which is at the end of a leafy path, will wake up surrounded by rolling Welsh hills and serenaded with birdsong.

romany_caravan.jpg

The wedding venue is owned and run by Simone and Roger Mansell-Broome, who are just the perfect hosts and stylist Sue said that when one tries to praise them for their hospitality and attention to detail they reply “It's what we do”.

A truly green and ethical venue

Matara, a very green and ethical wedding venue listed in our directory, is totally committed to providing its customers with transparency in all they do and we have recently been sent the following statement by them.  We thought our readers would love to know how committed they are - over to Geoffrey Higgins of Matara:

matara_weddings.jpg

"We want to ensure that, while providing you with the opportunity to celebrate the important rites of passage in your life, we give you as much information as possible about how we work, the food you eat and how it is sourced, the energy we use, and the team who work for you.  We want you to be confident that the food we serve is sourced from suppliers who rear their animals humanely and allow them to range freely outdoors, free of growth hormones and antibiotics, provide us with only sustainable varieties of fish, supply products made from organic or biodynamic crops without pesticides, and then prepared by us with love and care.  We undertake to do as much as we can to minimise the environmental impact of our work for you, and are endeavouring to do our part in nurturing the environment and the nature which we so love.

Our goal is to reduce our wastage and emissions towards 0% - a big challenge.  We are at the first stage of the process and are committed to internally auditing our processes and suppliers over the next three months to see how we can:

  • Buy only what we need, leaving no surplus
  • Change or redesign our processes to take out waste entirely or reduce it to a minimum
  • Encourage our suppliers to reduce or remove the packaging they use or start working with like-minded suppliers
  • Purchase as many renewable, environmentally friendly, ethically, organically products as possible
  • Buy as much as possible from local suppliers to reduce the mileage travelled and – in the case of food – maximise the taste
  • Eliminate all hazardous chemicals from Matara thus avoiding soil and water pollution
  • At the same time, we want to create an environment at Matara within the team that encourages learning about sustainability and the part each person plays in the journey

"Our challenge is to establish an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling and socially just presence on the planet as the principle of our time." Charles Stirton - friend of Matara.

“I believe it is only though exploration and dialogue we will be able to address the ecological, social challenges we face.  In a conversation, you always expect a reply and if you honour the other person, you understand that you must not expect always to receive a reply that you foresee, or a reply that you will like.  A conversation is two-sided and always, to some degree, mysterious; it requires faith.” Wendell Berry – American man of letters

Weddings, tents and gypsy caravan

Simone from Welsh Green Weddings sent us some lovely photos of the first two weddings held at their wonderful new licensed wedding venue at Penybanc Farm in Carmarthenshire.

welsh_wedding.jpg

Maggie and Steve were married there in May. It was an intimate family affair - Maggie originates from Guyana in South America so there was rather an exotic theme - a light green wedding with hot pinks, rum punch and colourful flowers - great contrast to the rolling green Welsh mountains!

welsh_wedding_2.jpg

The second wedding at the beginning of June was a larger event with a wonderful tent set on the platform overlooking the valley. They had beautiful sunny weather, a vegetarian reception, Chinese flying lanterns and a good time was had by all.

welsh_wedding_3.jpg

A wonderful idea - Welsh Green Weddings now have a beautifully restored authentic Romany caravan - perfect for the bride and groom on their wedding night, or a romantic break.

Welsh Green Weddings are offering 'Midweek Weddings' or 'Tea Party Weddings' for budget minded couples. To find out more go to their website or phone Simone on 01559 370517 for a chat.

Matara's green weddings

There's a wonderfully eco venue in the middle of England called Matara which offers ethical couples heaps of lovely ideas for their weddings and we thought it time that they told us more about the Centre. So here it is, straight from the people in the know. Over to you, Alice:

Matara Weddings - Clothèd all in Green-O

At Matara, we have spent the last 15 years developing our Centre into a place which allows guests to celebrate their wedding very personally, confident that they are making vows in a setting behind which there are ecologically sound principles.

matara_centre.jpg

We believe in fresh, local, organic produce. As much as possible of the fruit and vegetables we serve are organic; our meat is sourced from a trusted local butcher. We try as much as possible to serve seasonal produce, cutting down the miles your food travels to ensure it is fresh, with the best possible taste. We are committed to serving fish that has been responsibly sourced and is sustainable, so that we protect future needs for everyone. Wherever possible, we source our butter locally; it tastes better, doesn't travel far, and we are helping the local economy. We offer local cheeses, with milk from local cows.

Welsh green weddings

At last we have found an amazing venue in Wales for those that want to get wed the green way over the border. And what a venue it is, hosting wedding and civil partnership celebrations on their organic farm for those who want a truly rural, less commercialised, more individual green event.

ceridwen_weddings.jpg

Welsh Green Weddings in West Wales, is a small organic farm of forty acres tucked into the lush green Teifi Valley. They offer self-catered and/or catered accommodation for over forty people sleeping in three separate converted farm buildings plus additional sensitively managed spaces for camping and caravans. And there's a beautifully converted Old Dairy for small wedding receptions while larger receptions can be held in hired tents, yurts or marquees in the field close to the farmhouse.

welsh_weddings.jpg

An undiscovered gem of a venue nestling on the borders of Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire. Although it sounds rather remote, it's actually only a mile from the A484 linking Carmarthen to Cardigan and the nearest railway station is in Carmarthen, only 12 miles away, just beyond the western end of the M4, so very easy to get to from far and wide.

Welsh Green Weddings is Vegetarian approved, being members of the Vegetarian Society Food and Drink Guild, and the farm is heated by a biomass boiler with solar powered hot water. The photos were taken on a gloriously sunny spring day last weekend - you can just imagine how lush it will be in the summer!

These wonderful people are incredibly flexible and are happy to do whatever you like, whatever the size or complexity of your big day.

For more information check out their website www.welshgreenweddings.co.uk, email info@welshgreenweddings.co.uk get in touch with Simone on 01559 370517.

Dream green weddings in Cornwall

There’s been a revolution in the world of weddings recently. Suddenly weddings are all about the bride and groom, and the way they choose to live and marry.

tipi_woods.jpg

You’d think that this was always how it was meant to be, but in the past it didn’t usually work out that way.

The best day of your life was often all about the parents who were probably paying for it, Great Aunt Martha’s dislike of fancy food and not upsetting the vicar!

Thankfully things have changed and now it's very personal – weddings are more and more a reflection of the happy couple themselves - they’re romantic, they’re green, they’re fun.

Cornish Tipi Weddings captures the essence of eco-chic – riding the crest of this new wave of green Romantics with its very 21st century blend of sustainability, fun and glamour.

tipi_wedding_ceremony.jpg

Their licensed wedding pavillion means it's the closest you'll get to an outdoor wedding ceremony in England and they’ll arrange the wedding of your dreams for 20 people or 220 people, with a matchless backdrop of woodland and sky, shimmering lake water and magical Cornish earth.

For more information about Cornish Tipi Weddings and Cornish Tipi Holidays (their tipi camping accommodation) go to their website www.cornishtipiholidays.co.uk, email info@cornishtipiweddings.co.uk or phone 01208 880781

tipi_wedding_couple.jpg

"The ceremony took place in a clearing in the woods. Guests sat on hay bales and sipped champagne...The band was fantastic, the company even better and we finished it off sleeping in a tipi and waking to a fantastic day of fishing and swimming in the lake."

Not only are they good to the environment but they believe is being good to the community so for every wedding or event held a donation is made to Oxfam Unwrapped and the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institute.

Giant tipi tents win popular vote

With festival fever in full swing, Glastonbury all but over and a sweltering summer to inspire, you'll be thinking about throwing your eco friendly wedding in a field next summer, so whatever else you do you will probably need to hire a tent (just in case it rains!).

giant_tipi_tents.jpg

Imagine having 200 wedding guests gathered in three Giant Hat Kåtas all joined together to create a single huge space. The sun is setting, the band is in full swing and people are grooving on the dance floor. Across the tent people are chatting at the bar whilst others linger by the open fire…yes… inside the tent! You can have a smaller Tipi tent for guests to chill out on bean bags and giant cushions. Then as the night draws to a close, your guests can retire to individual camping tents in a tipi village created for you across the field.

In the West Country the lovely people at World Inspired Tents hire these wonderful giant tipis, known as Kåtas, offering an exciting, visually stunning and practical alternative to the traditional marquee and they have an amazing selection of teepee style tents for weddings, festivals and other outdoor events. World Inspired Tents will work with you to create a venue that will amaze and wow your wedding guests, their tents allow your imagination to run wild.

giant_teepee_tents.jpg

What's more this eco-friendly marquee company has recently scooped the top prize at the West Country Wedding Awards. To win this coveted award they have to have gained a healthy vote from their existing customers. Proof, we think, that they are just the best tent company that we thought they were!

Big wave, big welcome

Looking outside at the weather today (there's snow on Exmoor) it's hard to believe we will ever get some of those gorgeous summer days that we all lust after. But summer will come and we're predicting that festival flags are the next big thing for back yard wedding decor.

So when Cornish festival flag makers Big Wave Flags contacted us to find out whether our couples would be interested in their flags we nearly bit their hands off!

happy_couple.jpg

Having a cluster of Big Wave Flags to welcome your guests makes a real statement and they can transform your wedding venue to create a quite unique atmosphere. The flags stand 8 meters tall and are available in combinations of white, silver, ivory champagne, yellow, gold, red, purple, green, blue and more.

multi_flags.jpg

The fantastically tall, upright flags fly beautifully as en-masse installations but, if your budget will only run to a couple of flags, they also work equally well in the most compact locations. Each and every flag is different and they are all handmade in Big Wave's studio overlooking the North Cornish coastline.

Stunning arabian wedding tents

If you're planning an exotic theme for your wedding, one of these stunning tents will create an atmosphere out of the Arabian Nights.

white_arab_tent.jpg

Arabian Tents has a range of marquees with beautifully hand made interiors in a number of designs which include delicate printing to vibrant velvets and all the patterns on the tent linings are hand block printed in India using traditional techniques.

arab_tents_red.jpg

The company also stocks and wide range of accessories and lounge furniture like sofas, padded stools, low tables, chests, rugs and ornaments which you can use to decorate and accessorise the inside space with.

arabian_tent_night.jpg

What we love about Arabian Tents is their commitment to the women's co-operative that does all the block printing. By supporting this co-operative they are giving women who find themselves in abusive relatoinships an opportunity to become financially independent. Also some of the soft furnishings you can hire are made by a Delhi company that employs Aids suffrers, helping them at every stage of their illness by providing them with appropriate work and taking into consideration their needs at every stage.

Now that's a wonderful way to spend your wedding budget, supporting a company that cares.

Amazing success story!

When World Inspired Tents wrote to us with an update on the company's second amazing year of trading, we couldn't help but feel proud to have been involved in their incredible success. Ed Wright, the MD told us:

"Having been in your wedding directory for two years, I can confirm that Green Union consistently provides the greatest volume of web traffic and the highest quality of leads to our business, over and above all other wedding directories".

teepee_tents.jpg

Ed went on to tell me a little more about the business and where the teepees have taken him over the last year:

"We've had an amazing year and despite being only our second full year in business, World Inspired Tents has grown significantly. We've successfully completed jobs all over the South of England and Wales from Glastonbury to The Gower and from the western tip of Cornwall to East Grinstead (we did ask him if he was offsetting his travel!). Every one of our weddings has been a 100% successful and people just adore the tipis! Compared to traditional white marquees and tents, they are still very rare so we have the advantage of offering something that is all but unique. The letters of thanks we've had from our couples have been amazing.

Create your own unique wedding experience

So many wedding venues these days only offer a bridal couple what suits the venue, rather than what you really want. So much so, that sometimes the venue will even insist that you conform to their ideas in order to make their job easier and charge you for the privilege. Some wedding venues even hold more than one wedding on the same day spitting out bridal parties like sausages!

So we're always looking for wedding venues willing to go that extra mile to help you create an extra special day totally tailored to your own dreams. One very special place we know is the Matara Centre and Kingscote Park, a beautiful and tranquil place to hold a unique wedding celebration.

unique_wedding_venue.jpg

After holding 100’s of weddings they have used their experience to put together and idea of the dream wedding that can be tailored to your own unique celebration.

And the people at Matara know that having the time to relax and enjoy is the secret to a wonderful wedding celebration. Savouring good food, rich conversations and fond memories in a very special place with close family and friends who have come together to celebrate your marriage is important. So with this in mind they offer you the sole use of the Matara Centre and Kingscote Park with accommodation for up to 24 guests for two whole days.

Fabulous farm wedding

Gorgeous green country wedding venue

We're so excited to welcome Winkworth Farm to our green wedding directory!

Set in 230 acres of organic farmland, this former Cotswold stone threshing barn complex with a capacity for 200 seated guests is a fabulous new wedding venue for couples planning to throw a wedding in the Wiltshire/Gloucestershire countryside. Renovated by local craftsmen, using some ancient building methods combined with the very latest environmentally friendly technology, this lovely new venue is being sympathetically restored with a high-end finish throughout, including the furniture and fittings.

winkworth_farm_barn.jpg

The Barns, reached by a mile long private drive, are surrounded by already well established lawns, herbaceous borders, a Cotswold stone sunken garden and acres of organic meadows with ravishing views and is yours exclusively for your wedding day.

There's a Farmhouse too which can be hired from 1 to 4 nights, with meals prepared by a local chef. The perfect place for you to prepare for the big day with your immediate family.

What's so special about Winkworth Farm is the fact that the Jeremy and Melanie Newman will not compromise on any aspect of the building work, or the way they will run the venue when it opens in June 2010. Although the farm business has diversified from its original beef farming roots, they still believe in supporting and promoting local suppliers and producers. They are employing a local architect, builders and craftsmen to realise their dream venue and they use renewable energy with the latest green technology to reduce the farm's carbon footprint.

countryside_wedding.jpg

Having hosted wedding receptions in the cattle byre with a marquee attached since 2004, the Newman family are old hands at making your day go without a hitch and they are now looking forward to hosting weddings year round in their newly renovated and licensed Cotswold venue.

If you fancy taking a look and talking to Jeremy and Melanie about Winkworth Farm, they will be welcoming visitors for ‘hard hat tours’ of the barn complex from Autumn 2009 and they are already taking wedding bookings starting August 2010 through to 2011.

To find out more go to their website or contact them by email at info@winkworthfarm.com or tel. 01666 823499.

It's booked!!

summer_roses.jpgAfter much umm-ing and ahh-ing, a dinner tasting and a good look around, (actually twice!) we have finally booked our wedding venue! We have gone for something a little different for the day, well actually two days, this decision was reached for a number of reasons some of them eco centered.

Weddings have a tendency of getting big, growing in fact right before your eyes, becoming all consuming, but if you're concerned by the basic waste, money and miles this will effect, have you considered doing a two date affair?

Basically we are having a very small ceremony and dinner, it looks like 14 of us on a Wednesday, and then a cheap and cheerful party the following Saturday, 'two do’s' you say, surely that can’t be very eco, that’s just extravagance no? Well no, we hope.

This has two main outcomes for us. Intimacy and affordability. But will also, I hope, keep it eco centered.

So the ceremony, with our very nearest and dearest family and friends, parents, best man, etc. means that afterwards, for the wedding breakfast, we can eat at one table, enjoy really good local food in a beautiful private dining room, the same room in which we will earlier have been married, and we can all stay over in the same place keeping travel miles low. Intimate, relaxed and personal. One room to decorate, 14 mouths to feed, no going to or fro!

Low Impact Wedding Series - The Venue

Foy spicer continues the account of her Low Impact Wedding - here she talks about the couples' choice of venue, hightlighting pros and cons...

wedding_venue_liw.jpg

CEREMONY: We both wanted an outdoor wedding ceremony and reception. We considered a lot of places for the ceremony, but accessibility was important because we've both got lots of cute little old ladies in our families. After a little investigating we decided on a local state park that had this beautiful shelter built by the PWA in the 1940's of local quarried rock. The price was right being just $25 per day. We rented the shelter for the night before as well and BBQ'd there for the rehearsal dinner.

The only draw back was the not so nice bathrooms. We own a couple of wooden TV tray like folding tables. I put one in each bathroom with a basket of assorted hand sanitizer, lotion, tissues, mints, Tylenol and safety pins. After the ceremony the baskets were brought to the reception venue's bathrooms.

I should also mention we didn't really have a rain plan. The wedding was going to happen outside come rain or shine without a tent! We're really lucky it didn't rain.

We rented chairs for the audience. It was $110 for 100 chairs to be delivered and picked up. However, we had to put out the chairs and return them to their racks. Luckily we had some obliging friends and family who took care of this.

RECEPTION: We needed a location that would allow us to bring in our own food. We wanted to use local or organic food as much as possible and many catering services charge outrageous prices to alter the menus enough to accommodate a green wedding. Since we weren't having the wedding at a church, why not the reception? My groom's church had just built a new community room. In fact for a while we worried it wouldn't be done in time for the wedding, but they did manage to get it put together just seven days before the wedding. The cost of rental was $75 for four hours and $25 for use the kitchen.

Total in site rentals = $235

Planning: Where to Begin?

One question that is certain to come up pretty early on in the wedding planning process is “where do I start?”. Whether you are planning a green wedding or not, the details all seem to hinge on each other - deciding on a venue leads to caterer discussions and then photographers and so on. For us, we decided that the ultimate must-haves in a wedding site were an outdoor venue, and a place that would accommodate our eco-wedding.

Deciding on a venue was a month long process of weighing our options and desires. We initially wanted a wedding site that was on the commuter train line, so everyone traveling into town could easily spend the weekend here without a car. This is not the norm for U.S. travel, and even in a public transportation mecca like Portland, ended up not being feasible for almost all of the wedding venues within our price range.

So, early on, we learned another very important lesson in green wedding planning: be flexible.

edgefield_garden.jpgWe have find an amazing venue, Edgefield McMenamins, and though it’s not on the train line, it will allow for everyone who attends to stay in the adjoining hotel (minimizing the driving around). They have local food and alcohol options, and most importantly we can have the wedding outside.

The choice of a venue has implications for many of the eco-aspects of a wedding, so be sure to ask questions if you are planning a green wedding. Where do they get their food? (This may be less of an issue in the UK, but here in Oregon while we have local food options, you have to seek them out, and they aren’t necessarily the norm.) What types of transportation are available to get to the venue? Do they recycle? Use recycled paper products (or better yet, not use paper products)? While it’s easy to get overwhelmed, for us it was important to remember what our priorities were and be flexible.

Fabulous new wedding venue!

clavelshay.jpg

We think you'll love this fabulous new wedding venue - Clavelshay Barn in Somerset.

Nestling in its own private valley, Clavelshay is set in a beautiful, peaceful and tranquil rural setting. The traditional stone barn which was built around 1700, was simply and sympathetically converted by the owners using natural materials and the oak flooring in the restaurant, cedar staircase and window sills are all made with wood from the farm. The spectacular elm roof beams are original and still have wooden pegs in the joints!

A perfect background for those ever special wedding photographs.

Somerset grows and produces some of the best food in the country and the Clavelshay kitchen is totally committed to selecting the very best local growers and suppliers for the food it serves, including the farm's own home-reared beef. Bread is baked daily and even the water on the table is from the farm's own spring.

Although the Barn only seats 50 wedding guests, there is ample space outside for a marquee or tent that can accommodate up to 100 guests.

You might think it a drawback that Clavelshay doesn't have a civil wedding license but this shouldn't be a problem if you are happy to get wed in the local registry office and then hold your reception at the Barn. Make a day of it and bus your guests from the ceremony to the reception in an old charabang!

A Very Green Union

cider-barn.jpgNext weekend GreenUnion's eco chic couple Sarah and Paul are joyously tying the knot. They’ve chosen Coombe Farm near Tiverton as their wedding venue, where they will have a spiritual woodland ceremony joined by family and friends. Coombe is an organic farm and woodland and the beautifully renovated 17th Century thatched Cider and Threshing Barn, with its fields and woods, offers a very special place to throw a green wedding.

The image, courtesy of Coombe Farm Woodlands is of the newly thatched barn which is licensed for civil wedding ceremonies - as close as you can get to having your wedding ceremony in the great outdoors...

We'll be posting Sarah and Paul's story here on the blog over the coming week, but here's a list of some of the people who are playing a huge part in their celebratons.

Most civil ceremonies

civil_ceremony.jpgI'm often getting emails from eco chic couples wanting to get married outside and asking whether I know of anywhere that this is possible. So I thought it was time to give you all the bad news - you just can't get married, or have your civil partnership ceremony, under god's blue sky either in England or Wales. The law will not allow it, you can only get wed in a venue which has a license to hold civil ceremonies and the license stipulates that there has to be a roof over your head. Stupid I know, but true, especially when we all know that you can marry anywhere you like in Scotland!

The General Register office for England and Wales website will give you all the information you need and direct you to your local register office for more information. You can also get information about getting hitched in Scotland here, and Northern Ireland here.

The compensation for not being able to have a ceremony in the great outdoors is that some venues have bent over backwards to make your wedding or civil partnership a day to remember. We have some fabulous eco friendly venues on GreenUnion. Christmas romance in the city

eco_friendly_city.jpgYou don't have to leave the 'capital' to have the most romantic of green weddings. Right in the heart of London lies The RSA, a jewel of an environmentally savvy venue. Steeped in history the House was designed especially for the Society by Robert Adam in the early 1770s and the Georgian façade conceals gems of both contemporary and traditional architecture which have to be seen to be believed.

They're licensed to host civil ceremonies and serve the most delicious local and seasonal produce cooked on site. So if you're concerned about the environmental impact of your wedding, then have your ceremony & reception in the same venue and let The RSA's hard work tick a few more eco-friendly boxes without even trying!

There's a 20% discount on rates if you plan to wed in the next 3 months. Contact weddings@rsa.org.uk .

RSA wedding showcase - 7th October

the_RSA_house.jpgThrowing a green wedding or civil partnership celebration doesn't necessarily mean traipsing out to the country. On the contrary, eco savvy couples who opt for city chic will find there are many advantages to getting married in the capital. There's a growing list of venues, many set in wonderful buildings steeped in heritage and tradition, like The RSA, that take their ethical responsibilities very seriously and can boast published environmental best practice policies. The RSA proudly ranks 8/10 on our green gauge, as high as many of our rural venues. They're keen to support British food producers and cook seasonal menus.

The RSA is holding a wedding showcase next Sunday 7th October between 11.00 am and 2.00 pm when the team will be on hand to guide you around the house and answer any questions you might have.

There'll be complementary refreshments on the day and there's a prize draw for one lucky couple to win an intimate lunch for two in the Vaults Restaurant.

So if you're planning an eco chic wedding in the city, get along to the RSA next Sunday 7th October 2007 to see what how green your celebration could be in Central London.
