SUPPLIER FOCUS: Wild & Wondrous Flowers!

We've struggled to entice wedding suppliers in the North West to join Green Union and spend a lot of time trying to find them directly on behalf of Brides who contact us trying to find ethical services up there.

So today we're especially pleased to welcome another perfectly formed small and ethical business that services green weddings throughout the North West of England...

Wild & Wondrous, established by the lovely Nicola and assisted by Emma, specialise in British and locally grown flowers, foliages and plants, and only use imported flowers that are grown sustainably and ethically when they can't source locally. In fact, Nicola told me that her flower wholesaler was particularly challenged by her request but backed her all the way and he now happily supplies her with everything she needs!

It's not always easy to stick to your principles when you're juggling your income against the needs and wishes of brides, but Nicola says she tries to guide them through their ideas with suggestions of what is in season, where they can use British Flowers and how to create the looks they dream of and still have an eco-friendly wedding supporting their natural and sustainable ethos.

Nicola creates amazing and beautiful floral arrangements for weddings and events from her shop in Bolton and is very happy to work with brides to decorate their wedding day to perfection!

THE GUIDE: Choosing your perfect engagement ring

A little bird told us that the most popular day to get married is Christmas Day - I'm not sure I believe this but I do know that it's a really popular day for that all important proposal ...

So once the question has been popped and whether you're choosing a ring for a surprise proposal, or choosing together after the event, the process of finding the perfect one can seem complicated, but it isn't actually.

So our lovely friends over at Cred Jewellery have put together a little flip book Guide to Choosing your Engagement Ring which clearly takes you through the process.

I think the thing most of you lovely readers will be interested in, is that Cred, as well as the classic '4 C's' that get bandied about, also offer another vital 5th C - CONSCIENCE. I think, to date, they are the only jeweller labelling their gold with both the source and the content, giving peace of mind to you, the recipient.

A ring that can truly symbolise love.

Fall in love with Little Cherry

Who, do you ask, is Little Cherry?

Green is the new black. The evidence is everywhere from new technology to the vintage trend phenomenon. Reusing, recycling and upcycling are seen as standard and the planet’s wellbeing is at the forefront of everybody’s mind. Little Cherry is proud to have spotted the green revolution way back in its early days before becoming one of the nation’s top eco-friendly party suppliers. The idea of green living (and green partying) is something very close to Little Cherry’s heart, as is the small-change big-difference philosophy that has taken over in recent years.

Based in Surrey, south east England and in business since 2007 Little Cherry is under the care and supervision of experienced businesswoman and green enthusiast Sandra Adar. The party supply company sources its products from all over the globe, running operations like palm leaf plate production in India as a matter of course. Supplying party and wedding supplies UK wide, Little Cherry is already a key player at home and away – with its sights set on further growth still!

This intended growth will be welcome news for those of you who, like Little Cherry, understand that what is good for the planet is good for its people. This simple hypothesis is the driving force behind the company’s continual efforts to source and supply the best, green products for magical white weddings and it is something they do exceptionally well. Their wonderful selection of ethically sourced, top quality party supplies demonstrates how they are ever-conscious about providing the best service to its customers and the best quality of life to its staff and suppliers. Similarly, Little Cherry’s commitment to keeping production close to the source of raw materials, as well as their commitment to ensure all manufacturing and transportation is low in emissions and cost sets them apart from other wedding supply companies. Owner Sandra Adar has described the company as “the perfect storm”, referring to how it helps the contemporary lifestyle and green philosophy work in perfect harmony to help both people and the planet.

In short, Little Cherry is a little company making a big difference by showing the world that every party – even one as special as a wedding – can be a planet-friendly one!

Faritrade & Fairmined Gold revealed

At the end of last year April Doubleday, ethical jewellery designer of beautifully crafted Fairtrade and Fairmined Gold wedding and engagement rings told us she was about to embark on the journey of a lifetime. We asked her to tell us all about it on her return. Over to you April...

"Christmas 2012, after much planning my son and myself were heading out to Columbia.

I am a designer and maker of jewellery and have been using ethical gold and recycled silver since becoming a jeweller. From 2011 quite a lot of gold from the Choco Region of Columbia has been certified Fairtrade and Fairmined Ecological Gold.

Since 2006 I have been passionate about visiting the miners and the source of my gold, a dream that now, on Christmas Day flying into Bogotá, was going to be realised.
