Felt from the heart
Your guests will be hard pressed to throw these wedding favours in the bin when they get home!
We are totally bowled over by these gorgeous felt hearts hand sewn by a group of women in Makapanstad,South Africa who have created a little heartfelt something which makes a perfectly unique idea as a little thank you gift for your wedding guests.
Julie who, with her friend Martha, set up The Heartfelt Project thinks that the wedding industry at the moment has taken the whole emphasis off what a wedding is really about - namely the love and commitment of two individuals - and that it has become greedy. She believes that more and more couples are beginning to realise this and that they want to tailor-make their wedding day, creating a more individual feel where it really is about the bride and groom and their values, and they are more discerning about how they spend their wedding budget, putting it where it can really make a difference. Buying these little wedding favours will do just that.

A sustainable wedding gown
If you're not the sentimental type and don't plan on keeping your wedding dress for your daughter to wear on her own wedding day (it's so not going to happen!) then here's a truly extreme solution to the idea of recycling the wedding gown.
Researchers at England's Sheffield Hallam University, along with the fashion department, have designed an eco-friendly wedding dress that can be dissolved in water, according to a university press release.
So, what's more, you could save on your honeymoon wardrobe as the fabric dissolves transforming it into five more different fashion garments! Waste not, want not...
"The students wanted to challenge the notion that a wedding dress should only be used once and aimed to explore modern society's attitudes towards throwaway fashion," fashion lecturer Jane Blohm says in a press release.
"The project is a union between art and technology which explores the possibilities of using alternative materials for our clothing.
"The wedding gown is perhaps one of the most symbolic garments in [a woman's] wardrobe and represents the challenges of 'throwaway fashion.'"
In fact the dress is featured in an exhibition entitled A Sustainable Marriage - on until 16th May at the University's Furnival Gallery .

La Vie en Vert
La Vie Est Un Voyage (pronounced: la vi a ter vwayaj), meaning ‘Life is a journey’ is a new ethical wedding planning service in Derby run by Clarisse Elysée who is making it her business to promote an eco-friendly angle to elegant weddings.
Imagine a beautiful outdoor, summer wedding surrounded by the natural environment … Clarisse said: “What’s great about green stylish weddings is that, not only can they accommodate most budgets, but creative options are almost endless. The reception could take place in a farmhouse, country house, green hotel, to name but a few”.
Her most memorable wedding so far? A wedding in Martinique in September 2009, where she assisted the couple with the overall wedding planning. Although the label ‘green’ wasn’t officially tagged on the wedding invitations which Clarisse had designed and crafted as her gift to the couple - it had most of the characteristics of a stylish green wedding. From the reception venue, a picturesque tree and flower farm, to the locally sourced food (meat and vegetarian), drinks, flowers – ‘one of my tasks, as the wedding planner, was to collect the in-season hibiscus from the nearby flower farm', to the reception venue being located just a few miles away from the church. The wedding celebration, a lovely day-time garden party, was attended by approximately 100 delighted guests, mainly local natives.
Clarisse has now brought her green wedding planning expertise to the UK, specifically the Midlands, and to celebrate the new wedding season in style, she is offering GreenUnion visitors special prices on all three of her wedding packages: Comprehensive, Basic and Flexible. The offer is valid until end of May 2010.
To find out more get in touch by email Clarisse@lavieestunvoyage.com or phone Clarisse on 01332 258 377. Please quote ‘Green Union’ when contacting Clarisse at La Vie Est Un Voyage to take advantage of this offer.
