The ultimate vintage wedding dress

Who wouldn't want to wear a vintage wedding dress designed for Audrey Hepburn?

Lot 333, the ivory satin bridal gown designed for Audrey for her planned wedding to James Hanson in 1952 which never took place, is part of a collection of dresses worn by Audrey Hepburn, to be auctioned off in London on December 8 by Kerry Taylor Auctions.

The dress was designed by the Fontana sisters and Audrey went for fittings for the gown when she was filming Roman Holiday. After her wedding was called off, it was Audrey’s wish that her dress should be “worn by another girl for her wedding, perhaps someone who couldn’t ever afford a dress like mine, the most beautiful poor Italian girl you can find”. It was given to a poverty stricken young Italian girl called Amabile Altobella to wear at her own wedding to farm worker Adelino Solda with whom she remained happily married, producing three daughters and five grandchildren. Amabile said `I have had a happy marriage, so the dress brought me luck'. She has decided that it is time to pass it to another bride, rather than keep it stored in the box where it has remained for so many decades.

We couldn't help but gasp at the guide price but if you have the readies and want a unique up-cycled wedding dress then it's all in a good cause. 50% of the net sale proceeds will be donated to The Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund and Unicef for their joint venture 'All Children in School' which aims to provide 115,000,000 children worldwide, not currently in school with a basic education.

Apart from the wedding dress there's a host of other ravishing evening gowns, dresses, suits and accessories, many designed by Givenchy, from Hepburn's wardrobe for the more adventurous, unconventional bride to consider.
