Vintage wedding in Wales

Vicky and Ads got married on 15th August 2009. They threw a vintage 1920s style wedding at Treowen House, Monmouthshire. Thanks to Rosie Parsons photos, we can see what a brilliant time they had!

Vicky is a hopeless collector of vintage china, wedding stylist and lover of all things 1920's, so it was a given that the wedding had to be decorated with her lovely china and locally grown seasonal flowers. The bride wore an original 1920's flapper dress and she made her own jewellery from recycled vintage jewels.

More about seasonal wedding flowers

Spring iris table centers and Rose Buttonhole from Snapdragon Garden
Winter heart decoration and seasonal sunflowers from Sweet Loving Flowers

The majority of large scale flower farms use huge quantities of pesticides, exposing both their workers and the environment to high doses of chemical poisons. Its also fairly well known that flower growers elsewhere may use pesticides that have been banned in Europe, or use pesticides in quantities which exceed European regulations without any protection for the workers exposed to them.

Where will your wedding flowers come from?

Why on earth do we need to fly flowers halfway round the world from farms where workers are exploited and subject to high doses of agri-chemicals when we have such a wealth of beautiful seasonal home grown flowers and foliage right here on our doorstep?

Please watch this clip to learn a bit more about how the cut flower industry can have devastating social and environmental effects on the places where flowers are grown as a cash crop.

Over the last few years we have been so encouraged by the growth of our home grown flower industry and the interest our visitors are taking in seasonal and British grown flowers for their wedding bouquets and wedding reception floral decorations.

Search our green wedding directory for dedicated, talented and creative florists and flowers growers who care about our environment and can offer a wealth of ideas on how to decorate your wedding using seasonal flowers and foliage right here on our very British doorstep.

Create your own unique wedding experience

So many wedding venues these days only offer a bridal couple what suits the venue, rather than what you really want. So much so, that sometimes the venue will even insist that you conform to their ideas in order to make their job easier and charge you for the privilege. Some wedding venues even hold more than one wedding on the same day spitting out bridal parties like sausages!

So we're always looking for wedding venues willing to go that extra mile to help you create an extra special day totally tailored to your own dreams. One very special place we know is the Matara Centre and Kingscote Park, a beautiful and tranquil place to hold a unique wedding celebration.

After holding 100’s of weddings they have used their experience to put together and idea of the dream wedding that can be tailored to your own unique celebration.

And the people at Matara know that having the time to relax and enjoy is the secret to a wonderful wedding celebration. Savouring good food, rich conversations and fond memories in a very special place with close family and friends who have come together to celebrate your marriage is important. So with this in mind they offer you the sole use of the Matara Centre and Kingscote Park with accommodation for up to 24 guests for two whole days.

Introducing Lisa & Scott

We're delighted to welcome Lisa and Scott from Dorset who are cleverly managing to get married in both Dorset and Wiltshire on the same day next year! They've seen a few weddings in their time as wedding photographers, so we're really looking forward to finding out how the professionals throw a green wedding. Read on to find out what Lisa told us about their wedding plans so far.

lisa_scott.jpgNames? Lisa & Scott

Wedding date? 13th June 2010

Wedding venue and location?
Ceremony: Old Wardour Castle, Wardour Castle, Near Tisbury, Salisbury, SP3 6RR (an English Heritage site)
Reception: The Langton Arms, Tarrant Monkton, Nr Blandford, Dorset, DT11 8RX

How many guests are coming to your wedding and where from? 50 wedding guests at the ceremony, and 60 guests at the wedding reception

Do you have a budget and do you think you'll be able to stick to it? Yes our wedding budget is £7000 and we are planning to stick to it!

Why is it important to you to throw an eco-wedding? What inspired you? We have always wanted to keep our wedding relaxed and simple and planning an eco-wedding really lends itself to this ethos. We also love all things vintage and so this was an inspiration for us and allowed us to hunt around vintage shops with a clear conscience, which is a lot of fun!

Please can you tell us a little about the eco-elements of your wedding? Our wedding plans started with my dress, which I bought many months ago now from Oxfam Bridal Suite. I was lucky enough to stumble upon a designer wedding dress by Sassi Holford and can’t wait to wear it! It is amazing what you can pick up in second hand shops and most of the Oxfam collection has not been worn before, so you can really find a bargain. Not to mention make use of a beautiful dress, which could otherwise go to waste.
