The perfect wedding gift

organic_linen.jpgAre the linens you choose safe and healthy for you? Are they made renewably and energy-efficiently, by a socially responsible company? Are they organic? We know that so many of you are making huge efforts to lead a sustainable lifestyle and trying to find safe and natural linens without sacrificing style or quality.

So we're doing our level best to find the most natural, environmentally friendly fine linens to stock in our Eco Chic Boutique that meet many, or all, of these criteria and which you can happily add to your wedding list.

We've just added a fabulous new range of Italian organic table linen which we know you will love! This luxury table linen is beautifully finished with mitred corners and subtle coloured stitch detailing around the extra deep hems. It's available in 3 colourways and comes in a range of tablecloths, napkins, place mats and table runners.

If the Italian organic linen is too pricey for you, we also have lovely organic cotton table linen at very affordable prices, so check out our Eco Chic Boutique for more information about our eco friendly table linens.

Low Impact Wedding Series - Stationary

We made our own wedding invitations and other stationary.

My lovely groom did all the water colors and a lot of the layout. I did a lot of the wording for the invitations and some graphic design. We used PhotoShop to create the images and wording and a desk top printer for the printing. They were one of the things we got the most compliments on.

invite.jpg

We used Genesis™ Recycled Stationery in Milkweed 8.5 x 11 80# cover and we ordered the paper from Treecycle. I recommend paper that is at least 80# . That is the minimum thickness the USPS will take for postcards. Be careful, they also have a minimum size.

We tried not to use too much paper so the invitation had a printed map of the venue with info on the back and and the RSVP's and Rehearsal Dinner invites were postcards which helped cut down on the amount of money we spent on stamps.

The wedding programme was made by folding an 8.5 x 11 page in half length-wise and it looked really slick although I do have to admit some of the font was a bit little small. We printed a quiz on the back of the programme which gave people something to talk about before the wedding started and we had a friend who's got a good sense of humor stand up during the toasts and give the answers.

Stationary Budget:
$73.90 Stamps (100 Invitation, 150 Postcard, 80 Thank You)
$84.00 Ink ($12 per color cartrige)
$26.99 Card Stock (500 pages of #80 paper)
$30.17 Envelopes (250 matching card envelopes)

Total = $211.06

Kindly compiled by Foy Spicer.

The Countdown is on… 2.5 weeks to go

Just a short while until the Wedding! Which is feeling very fun, exciting and just slightly stressful. Mostly, I am excited to see friends and family, put all the pieces into place for the ceremony and reception, and have a great wedding weekend!

We have so many guests coming from out of town that it made sense to plan a few days of activities. With friends and wedding party members coming in early, we’ll have almost a week of celebrating with loved ones.

origami_cranes.jpgOur decorations are almost finished. We’re making origami cranes, which will hang from branches arranged in vases, and origami name holders (featuring recycled materials— cranes folded from magazine pages, vases purchased from a bride who used them earlier this year, and sticks collected from the park down the street). We’ll have the crane arrangements in lieu of flowers, and then tea lights in small votives (also pre-used). Our favors, homemade jam in jars topped with fabric in one of our colors (see our previous post about making the jam), will add some more color and they are stamped with the bicycle lino cut we created last fall for our save the dates—just to pull everything together.

We’re down to the final preparations— seating arrangements, trying to wrangle those final RSVPs, and planning fun nights out with our wedding party. A friend who recently got married had the much appreciated advice that we should plan a special date right before the festivities, so we have been making plans for a camping trip followed by a couple's massage at a spa for next weekend.

Now back to work, though it’s hard to focus with so little time left before the Big Day!

Save-the-date DIY

Stylish, green and Fun ‘Save the Dates' on a budget! Posted by Esther - Blogger Bride

I knew from the beginning that I would DIY my Wedding Stationary. I love to draw and it’s so much a part of my own creative practice (check out my drawings here) that I knew I would incorporate drawings into everything. With the big plus of having expert graphic back up from my cousin and right hand woman, Kjerstin Oh from ‘Creative Lolly’, in the madness they call wedding planning, (contact me if you're in need of a great and talented graphic designer!) I hoped it would be special and beautiful and I wasn’t disappointed! So I thought it'd be fun to share with you what I came up with:

folded_save_the_date.jpgPoster Save The Dates!!
I've noticed that most of the invites and save the dates people keep are those which can be stuck to a fridge, propped up on a mantle or pinned to a board. So we're going with a poster style save-the-date with a bit of folding trickery, which means it can also be its own envelope (one less thing to buy, and less paper!). And it can be posted with a standard 2nd class stamp.

Three things mattered while designing my save-the-date stationary:

Eco friendly: they needed to be both email-able and post-able, using as little paper as possible.
Cheap: I’m on a budget - people and pennies need counting!
Beautiful and fun: we are hoping for a non-stuffy affaire so it needed to be as fun as we plan the bash to be!

Vicky & Ads get married!

vicky_n_ads.jpgOur lovely Charity Bride, Vicky, and her beloved, Ads, get married this weekend at Treowan in Monmothshire and we wish them all the luck in the world. We're thinking positive thoughts about the weather but know it won't matter a bit if it rains because of the strength of their relationship and the energy the couple and all their friends are putting into their very special weekend.

Vicky wrote to us a week ago to tell us all: "we'll be buzzing around on the Friday setting up and the wedding's on the Saturday. We're having a roaring twenties wedding and I won't have any bells on my toes (in true green wedding fashion) that's for sure! But I have locally sourced flowers from a friend's garden less than a mile away, and locally sourced food.....second hand rings, carbon offset honeymoon...charity shop sourced decorations...hand made jewellery and head pieces ... I'm laughing as I'm writing this, he he!"

Have a fabulous day Vicky & Ads!

Gorgeous jewels

jewels.jpg

We're so loving Lorna Henderson's sublimely beautiful and affordable range of bright jewels. Expertly and lovingly crafted by Lorna herself in Bedfordshire, right here in the UK, she creates intricate designs of semi-precious gems woven amongst hand forged silver flowers and delicately strung between silver links.

What we especially love about this new range is that you can splash out on a statement piece for yourself like the Rose Quartz Flower Cluster Bracelet, or you can afford to buy all your bridesmaids a beautiful Gem Twister Necklace as a gift.

The colourful collection includes, crystals, blues, citrus, pinks and pearls.

‘I like to think of my jewels as works of art that can adorn the body, which have life, are unusual and make the wearer happy,’ says Lorna.

Go to our Eco Chic Boutique to view the whole collection.

Save the honeybees

If you want to have locally grown seasonal flowers at your green wedding, you will be relying on our honeybees to pollinate and perpetuate the plants. But our honeybees are in great danger and there's a huge concern that they may not be around much longer to do this.

So we’re supporting the Soil Association’s campaign to save the honeybees and The Prince’s Rainforest Project, please lend your support. Click below to take part.
